What cameras do you guys use?

So I have some Bestbuy gift cards burning a whole in my pocket so I think I might buy a new camera.

My current camera is a Sony H1 that I bought new a few years ago for ~$450.. the newest version of this camera is the Sony HX1 which has a heck of a zoom and some cool features. But I'm thinking for that price I might go up to a DSLR

..looking at the Canon EOS Xsi or the t1i

any thoughts? I'm mostly just using this for amateur photography on vacations an such.

For everyday walking around I use a Canon Powershot SX 20 ...... If I want to get serious I pull out the big gun ..... A Canon 5D Mark II, a whole array of L series lenses and good flashes ..... You really can't go wrong with any of the Canon DSLR gear .... You may want to take a look at the new 7D, it looks really sweet and good specs.

I use the Nikon Coolpix P90. It's a compact digital camera model that offers extended reach, wide-angle coverage, ease of use advanced shooting functions and outstanding performance.

Best thing... go down to Best Buy and try handling the different cameras... see which camera feel most natural in your hands... Does the button layout work for you? Is the camera to big or to small to hold it comfortable and steady. If a camera is awkward to use, chances are you won't use it...

That being said, I've been shooting Canon digitals since 2003, starting with the original Digital Rebel... done a few upgrades and now shoot with a 50D and a 5D. Also have a couple Point and Shoot Canon that use of more spur of the moment, snapshots... Actually use my S5 IS for a lot of web page snap shots...

thanks everyone... I've taken some classes that touched on photography in the past and I feel I'd catch on to a DSLR in no time. The idea is up in the air still.. I may end up ordering a Cintiq tablet instead as I feel I'd get more use out of it in the next year or so... (animation major) I will probably think about it for a few days but will post my decision

adorama camera has a special on the 5d mark II right now - $200 off plus $300 in free accessories. that's a heck of a deal considering i paid 2700 for both of mine (i'm a professional).

i'd also like to say that i think the 7d is a HECK of a bargain given the fact that it's autofocus is better than my 5d mark II's system. high ISO sensitivity is pretty good too, plus it takes 30fps 1080p video.

i'd avoid the rebel series and the 50d. one of my associate photographers owns 2 50d's and i have edited multiple weddings he's shot with them and i'm thinking about telling him to switch to different cameras or use my old 40d. the files from that camera at iso's higher than 800 are just terrible - tons of color noise and loss of details in the shadows. i officially hate the 50d. what a fail on behalf of canon.. not sure how that's possible since it was supposedly an upgrade over the 40d.

my pick: 7d for budget, 5d mark II if you can afford it (even a used one would be great). make sure you get a good lens to go with it - preferably a 2.8 aperture or faster.

hey adam. what do you think about the set up i linked to a couple posts ago? im really leaning toward the 7d if nothing else but for the 18mp over the 15mp.
