Americans Say US Cars Top Asian Autos

Poll: Americans Say U.S. Cars Top Asian Autos

Link to article

Quote:

WASHINGTON - Could the U.S. love affair with foreign autos be cooling?

An Associated Press-GfK Poll shows that more Americans now say U.S.-made automobiles are better than cars made by Asian countries.

People give American autos an edge over their Asian competitors 38 percent to 33 percent.

That's a modest advantage, but a big turnabout from a 2006 AP-AOL poll in which Americans picked Asian-made autos over U.S. autos for quality, 46 percent to 29 percent.

The change reflects Toyota's fading reputation as well as growing respect for Ford.

Fifteen percent of those polled in March said Toyota makes the best cars, down from 25 percent in 2006.

The tide is turning and it is crucial the American companies capitalize on this moment.
Continue to focus on quality and cars people want and they can hold on to this new found life.

That is great new. It is great the the domestics have gotten their interiors up to par with all the other. I have always owned American cars and have been made fun of it for it. Now my buddies that drive the Toyotas are on the receiving end of the criticism. Plus if more people buy American cars it will help to get more people back to work and help with the economy.

Without the advance of US Automakers, and the presentation of good QUALITY and well designed vehicles, this will eventually fade away and we will be right back in 2008 again.

Then why are they still buying their cars if domestics have higher quality?

Give it time. Buying habits don't change overnight.

I'd assume their buying habits were based on buying the better value. If they believe domestics are the better value, but last months sales reports showed they are still buying Asian cars despite their believed inferiority.

Because different people place different values on different aspects of a car. This was about perceived quality. And quality is not the same as safety.
