Anyone knowledgeable about Palm Tree Care?

It's been a pretty cold winter here and I was told that the best way to allow the tree to grow well during the warm months is to remove the branches/extensions that have brown/yellow leaves on them (which is about half of them) however they do not simply pull out. Am I supposed to trim them near the trunk or leave them be? Any help or pointers would be appreciated as this is my first spring here w/ the new house and palm. I am in South Georgia.

I take a sawzall with a demo blade and cut all the brown and or yellow ones near the trunk. I have never killed one, but I'm no expert.

I've heard that palm trees should be treated differently if they are in different locations or something like that. For example, palm trees in florida should be treated different than the ones in cali. Something about the soil, and other factors being different. What I think your best bet to do is find someone called a "master gardener" or something that's fairly close to you and give him/her a call.

Personally, what I do is plant what I like, trash what I don't, just whatever makes me think that my plants look o.k.

Before Winter you should wrap the Trunk up with Burlap then when spring arrives and you know for sure 100% no more freezes then you cut back the brown ones and Green returns Very quickly.

Hell we had 75 on Friday and Saturday it got cold and then a fluke 8 inches of Snow Fell lastnight Saturday night into Sunday morning.

What do you use to trim them with? I have Black and Decker Hedge Trimmers but they're not nearly strong enough. I'm guessing I need some serious manual wooden handle trimmers from Lowes?
