GM points question
Long story, but I requested my GM points be redeemed towards my GM Financial loan balance. I received confirmation and the points were deducted from my account. In the days following, I then paid the GMF account in full.
I expected to see a credit for the GM Rewards on the account or as part of the refund (The money transferred on day 2 of the payoff quote, so I received credit for the remaining days interest charged). Well, 3 weeks later, I received notification the rewards points were moved back into my rewards account and were not applied to my GMF loan, no reason given. So I contacted GM Rewards and their response was basically, oops, looks like it didn't work, maybe call GMF. What?! I've requested escalation. The rep said I couldn't apply points to my "last payment", and I informed her I didn't...it was against my first payment (well, it was...). This was after 14 minutes of no response (in chat), so I asked, "Hello" and was told they were busy and I needed to wait longer between responses. It's only $120 worth of points, not a big deal in the grand scheme, but it's the principle of the matter. I have no interest in using them for service, parts, or accessories - GM stuff is way, way overpriced through their dealers and this feels kind of like a scam. Anyone been through this with GMF or GM rewards? Needless to say, I was very disappointed with the customer service experience and outcome. I've only spent like $100k with GM in the last 3 years, I guess I shouldn't expect much? |

Yeah, this isn't exactly stellar customer service...
I do use my points on dealership service and sometimes accessories, though. Even if parts are way overpriced at the dealer, these points were granted for free in the first place, so it doesn't really matter much, right? The way I see it is I still get things much cheaper in the end either way, and that I can appreciate.

It's not quite free money as the program is paid for through the cost of the vehicle, parts, services, etc. Kind of like a credit card cash rewards program, it's all paid for by merchants and consumers anyway through fees.
What doesn't sit well with me is there was no explanation, no time given to alter course, just shovel the points back into my account 3 weeks later and then make me go hunt down customer service to find out what happened. And now, 3-7 days for someone to respond to the "case" opened on my behalf. Oh lord, seriously?! |
