2011 Orlando and GMC Granite

The 2011 Chevy Orlando MPV is looking good, and according to autoblog.com today, a GMC version called "the GMC Granite" will preview at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show next month. I look forward to seeing that version.

On a side note, the article also indicates that a "hi-po" version of the Buick Regal will also preview at the show.

It's too passive. It needs a more square shape that competes directly with the likes of the Scion xB, the Kia Soul, and the Nissan Cube. The interior is nothing new except for the gauges, so that disappoints me after seeing the new Malibu. The front end and rear end both look very nice. I like the seats. The shifter looks incredibly uncomfortable to use being that it is positioned like the Dodge Caliber. There is room for improvement before release, but I doubt that GM will do so. I hope this product sells.

i really can't understand why they'd make a GMC version.

GMC owners are very brand loyal, for one thing. Also, as is seen in the differences between the 2010 Equinox and the 2010 Terrain, GM is widening the differences between the two brands even on vehicles that share the same "bones". The GMC version will have more included-features and likely be more rugged (squared, truckish) looking. I look forward to seeing the GMC Granite.

Looks like the GM Design Lab has some teasers about about the GMC Granite "Urban Utility Vehicle" Concept:

Actatually, my Patriot has that shifter location and is a 5 speed and I love it, puts the shifter in very easy reach and still allows a full centerconsole.

The interior and front end look good but the rear is imo. Sorry.
