What kind of wrapping engine tape is this?
What kind of tape is this? It is a brown tape that is wrapped around some meshed sleeved rubber tubing above the engine. Off the top of my head. I think it is insulating tape which rejects heat. It's really old tape. I'd like to replace it. What can everyone recommend?

The hoses are for your heater. You can replace that tape with “cool tape”.

I would put this on headers or any wrap. Not on a DD anyways. They will get hot and when they cool off it will form moisture between the headers and the wrap and cause them to rust out.

The car is totaled so he may not want to spend that kind of money on it.

Get some 2012+ heater hoses and relocate them off of your intake manifold. Then you won't have to worry about the tape.
