Volt only to be initially avaliable in "certain markets."
http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f...markets-86655/
This seems like a safe move to see how the world reacts to a vehicle of this type. How well it does in these markets will obviously determine if America is ready for this type of Car, and if the Volt will see a national launch. Personally, I have no worry about the Sales of this car. I think it will be a hit, and I'll even go so far as saying a lot of ex-Prius owners will be recruited under the Volt's wing. |

They have to beware to not put a few hundred thousand of these things out at once...it will tax the grid something fierce...plus, they only ever planned to sell a small volume initially, slowly ramping up production to make sure they get it right. Targeting a certain market is a smart decision, imo, because it will concentrate the exposure...and California is a good place to do this.

Indeed. I'm sure the initial production run of the Volt will be sold out, seeing as how it'll be limited.

This is a car that you can't just sell ANYWHERE. There's has to be the right kind of infrastructure set up to support it and keeping it confined to some places is a good idea.

Overall, this looks like it may be the smartest move although it would be nice if they could offer them everywhere. To call this a limited roll out though is a bit of a misnomer in my opinion. Its a few thousand cars, so its low for a typical Chevy, but still about the same as (or a bit more than) the Dodge Viper.
As for the requirement for infrastructure, I don't think that plays a very big role here, given how limited it is even in the select cities that have anything. It does help, but more importantly it shows that the people and local governments in that area have a greater interest in electric cars I don't know what role CARB and Californias various emissions laws have to play in this, but I'm sure that is an important factor as well.

You are in a better position than me though. Every place on earth gets things before we do in Pittsburgh. We joke here that the apocolypse will happen in Pittsburgh six months later than the rest of the world.
