Anyone own a PS3?

I am not a big gamer but have been thinking of getting a PS3 for a year now and don't know if I should spend the money or not. I really like that it plays blu-ray and I just read I can watch movies from my netflix account through it anytime. I like Call of Duty and Madden and couple other games but have never gotten into playing games online and probably only play games like 5 hours a month tops. Do you guys think the thing is worth the $300?

If you want a Blu-ray player, it's one of the best out there. As for the netflix, if you want to browse netflix via the console, xbox has netflix built in for the most part.

For games, it doesn't matter which system you get, as the graphics are very comparable, xbox has better online features/quality, PS3 has blu-ray. Pick your poison. As a gamer I love my consoles, but as a casual, you might be using it just for a blu ray player. Would you spend 300 bucks on a blu ray player?

I bought the PS3 for the blu-ray. My kids use it for the games. As for online game play, last time I checked xbox you pay, ps3 is free (always has been). I can also stream my music from my laptop through the ps3 to my surround sound.

As far as Netflix. I have the disc Netflix provides that enables me to do that through the ps3, but the choices are seriously limited and I haven't tried it yet. Check out Netflix and you will see what I mean.

Its not bad for 300. The blue ray is nice. Gotta ask yourself if you will really use it that much to justify it.

PS3 is the best entertainment value for your buck! Blu-Ray player, PS3 player, surf the web on your HDTV, stream your audio and movie files from a PC or a Mac.

Best $299 you'll ever spend.

To play games online is 100% free and the quality is just as good as Xbox live. And it won't Red Ring of Death on you!!

*note I own multiples of both

In your case I would go ps3, it has a blueray player, and plays games, and online is free, so you dont have to pay that 50 or whatever a year to play 5 hours a week, when you do go online.

PS3 is the way to go...I haven't played in a while but I love playing MK vs DC Unvierse online! Best Mortal Kombat game ever! Blu-Ray is off the hook and it has a scaler to convert your regular DVDs to Hd resolution, Wi-Fi is another great feature of this console...you just can't beat it, specially now with the low price! Well compared to how much it cost me when it first came out! I say PS3 fo' sho'!

yes, worth it! I use it for the netflix and it works great. Plus the gaming, the blue ray heck ,most blue ray players are still 150.00, and the storage for pictures etc. It's well worth it. I bought mine 80gig back when it was 500.00 and it was still a great deal.

I love my PS3, just got the slim a few months ago. Been playing the crap out of Call of Duty Modern warfare. I don't play online much either, mostly because my signal is a little slow. But I'm not regretting my PS3.

Here's what i think from what you said above: looked like you had 4 main points.

Quote:
Netflix
Netflix is on Xbox as well, and it's worth nothing that you can stream audio from PC to XBOX as well, not just the PS3. both consoles can do it.

Games:
Call of Duty and Madden are on both consoles, so that won't affect your choice.
Alot of games are multi-platform,
If you gotta play Gran Tourismo get a PS3.
If you have to have Halo get an XBOX.

Online:
and you don't play online, so the fact that PS3 is free online and XBOX live is paid also doesn't matter.

Bluray
You're looking for Blu-ray: PS3 only. there's RUMORS microsoft is going to release an Add-on blu-ray player for the 360, but that's going to run you at least 100$ i'd expect, which is an added cost most people wouldn't go for. i'd expect that's only going to find sales with the people who already have XBOX, or don't want a PS3.
your case, this boils down the the Blu-ray, which is a win for the PS3.
I'm a die-hard XBOX person, and i'd never change it, i'm also a fairly intense Gamer, and play a lot of online play. i also play Halo, so for me, it's gotta be XBOX.

for you? i'd go PS3
