Almost T-boned last night...provoked a (rhetorical?) question
So I'm on my home home at 3am (worked an hour later than normal) and I'm just about to get on the freeway. The street is a 4 lane one way street and I was in the blue/green lane stopped at the light waiting to get on the freeway. The light turns green, and the truck in the middle red lane wasn't paying attention so I was halfway out in the intersection turning in my lane.
Apparantly this guy decided that he wasn't going to follow the solid white line and gun it through the intersection in a late 80's minitruck (read, mazda b2000). So I'm about 45 degrees angled right turning and I see headlights in my passenger side window, this guy isn't going to turn. I immediately gun the engine and just barely get out of the way. Had I not been paying attention this guy would have clipped my rear wheel/passenger door and caused quite a bit of damage to my plastic car. My question to everyone is...Why can't people pay attention to street signs and such? I don't think this guy was drunk, but he obviouisly had no clue that his lane was freeway-only or he was just going to break the law on his own. He took the Pink line and broke the law, almost hitting me. |

the guy wasnt turning? oh snap.... I could see if he wasnt maintaining his lane while turning on to the freeway entrance, but he was trying to go straight from a turn lane....
thats why I drive my big truck... people stay away from me.

Looks like a confusing intersection. Maybe the guy wasn't familiar with the area.

follow the lines... white on right, yellow on left, sometimes white on left if its a channelizing line but NEVER cross a solid line, white or yellow... simple rules of driving.
and if you make a mistake and realize it, follow through with your mistake, dont take evasive action to correct it. |

I have seen this happen to my friend's Sky. He was in a left/straight lane, going left, and a civic nailed him, going straight in a left only lane. Wasn't much damage, but still if the civic had a running start, he could have been in the hospital! I've dodged these by turning straight at the last second and the other guy just cut in front when the curb appeared. I miss a turn, sure, but at least I don't have to drive a rental for a few weeks.
This guy *knows* what he did if he gunned it while ignoring you. If you weren't so deep in the turn I think I would have just gone straight and let him pass, for as often I get to use that move. You did what was best and glad you weren't clipped. Our Avalanche didn't fair so well. I hate the gas pedal nannies on that model. If only the question wasn't rhetorical. I could think of many reasons. |

We were almost T-boned by a little old lady on her way to church last Sunday. She had no clue that she had done anything wrong or that there was a stop light on that corner. Fortunately my husband saw her, and slammed on the brakes, thankfully no one was behind us. I know our legislature is always trying to crack down on youthful reckless driving, but does anybody ever notice the senior driving? And before anybody says anything I'm half-way inbetween those ages!

Simple answer Mindz : People suck!
I once was making a left turn and the two lanes next to me could and should only go straight. The dumba$$ mexican on my right turns left alongside me instead of going straight like he's supposed to, forcing me to stop in the middle of the intersection because that dumba$$ took the turn too tight. Btw: i'm mexican, so hopefully nobody is offended by my remark

well I almost lost it today too. I was going over the my dealer, on the way, some WOMAN pulled in front of me, its a 60 mph zone, no one behind me, a truck on my right, so nowhere to go, I am ON MY BRAKES HARD. thank god I didn't hit her, but it was close.........and what was she doing??? I got beside her and wouldn't know it she was .......TALKING ON THE DAMN PHONE.....if I had a gun, and could get away with it, I would have pulled it and put a slug in both drivers side wheels/tires. That would slow the Bit*h down.
