Thoughts on this 1997 Chevy Blazer

If anyone would be willing to give some input on this 1997 Chevy Blazer 4x4 it would be much appreciated. It's about 20 miles away from me and has been on Cargurus for 38 days now.

My grandfather had a blazer just like this, same color and everything. I still like the look of this vehicle even with it being 20 years old. Can't believe it only has 60,000 miles on it. The sellers website also gives the free Carfax.

It apparently was a one person owner but was also a rental vehicle. Looking through the records, it looks like only general maintenance has been done minus a safety recall on the seat belt and the ignition switch being replaced. I know these vehicles have very poor crash ratings for everything but the driver, but i'm single with no children so that isn't the biggest concern for me. It wouldn't be a daily driver, but would be utilized in bad weather or for various purposes.

I still have not made it out to test drive, was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the condition, price, age, etc. Anything would be much appreciated. I will probably try to test drive it on Monday or Tuesday.

Looks to be in nice condition. Check the fuel lines and brake lines as they are known for rusting and needing to be replaced. Also check the vacuum lines for the 4 wheel drive as they also deteriorate over time and need to be replaced. The price is about what I'd expect retail to be for a Blazer in that condition. If it's been listed for a while then I'd think anywhere around 4k would be a good price if nothing is wrong with it.

97's and older had poor brakes,(single piston) which was fixed in 98 with an upgraded dual piston caliper front brake. I think its about $1000 too high, despite the low mileage, the Blazers were NOT a dependable maintenance free platform.

Chances are when you drive it, (unless it is garage kept) it will be a creaky bitch inside.

I had a 1998 Blazer 4X4, also a previous rental.

The "previous rental" thing scared me, but I got a great deal on the price... not too big of a risk.

That car turned out to be one of the best vehicles I've ever had. Lasted MANY years. I'd probably still have it, if a drunk driver hadn't turned the thing into a pile of scrap metal (incidentally, in spite of the Blazer being absolutely totalled, no injuries to the occupants).

I currently have a 1993 Blazer (full- sized), but, if I find a decent price on another S-10 4x4 Blazer, I'll buy it. Great car... but, what do you expect? It has a bowtie on the grill!

God I wish my 97' blazer looked that good. at 220,000 miles right now. Still runs strong. I'm not going to say it didn't have it's issues. Water pump was replaced forever ago. Brake lines like said above were replaced in 2016. 4HI doesn't work. 4LO does, not sure what the deal is there. Other than that, not a bad vehicle by any means. I do wish it had more stopping power, and the headlights are almost useless. You'll want to upgrade right away. I would try to get a year newer honestly.
