nt555g2 tires feel sketchy?

Ive had my MRR228 wheels on a few months now with stock rears up front and 305/30r20 nt555g2's in the rear. The rear of the car feels loose all the time. Tried different pressure and the same result. Anyone else have this issue. Just wondering if its the tires themselves or the wider offset/tires just feel that way?

the 555's are not sticky.

What are your ambient temps?

Temp doesnt seem to have a big affect on it feeling loose just driveing down the road. Now as far as traction goes when you get on the gas, you can forget it when its cold. But even 75-90 degrees its pretty poor.

To clarify the sketchy feeling im talking about, imagine being in a truck or suv with low tire pressure and then swerve back and forth (like in nascar to warm up tires). Thats what the car feels like. I feel safer in my sierra with a 6" lift and 35" tires.

Well...your 1st response is my point. When it's cold you have less traction.

What it sounds like you are talking about is steering feel or response. Sometimes referred to as 'squirm'.

The 555 has a soft sidewall which helps soak up bumps, but adds a lag or 'soft' feeling to steering inputs.

Your traction control is kicking in prematurely because you rear tire is shorter than your front tire. In track mode it should feel better, but the nt555 isn't an awesome tire for traction. I would go with a 295-35 next time, or 285-30 up front.

I gotcha...I had the same feeling when I moved the rears up front. It's tramlining that your feeling. It's not your rear, it's the wide front tires following the grooves of the pavement. When I switched to matching front/rear tires this went away.

I had the same combo as you and I felt it immediately.

I have told you all in several threads that those Nittos are not very good...3rd tier tires at best.

Just in case, can you have the dealership look at your alignment before you buy new tires? Even though those tires aren't great they still shouldn't feel as bad as your posts make them sound. They're just not up to par with the better offerings like MPSS.

I might get them to look at it. the car felt fine until the tire change so it shouldnt be the alignment. I had to cheap out at the time. I knew they wouldnt have much as far as traction, but didnt expect the handling to be as bad as it is.
