2017 Ford F-150 Raptor output leak?

Apparently this hit the net a couple days ago. Thoughts; in line with what you expected? Higher? Lower?

Leaked info on motor? 2017 Raptor 450hp/510lb.-ft of torque

Those are good numbers even for a V8, but I just can't wrap my head around my Raptor sounding like a blender.

There's a lot of turbo noise in the exhaust. I imagine it really need to be heard in the flesh to really make a honest assessment.

I had an Ecoboost F150. The truck had great power and worked well. I just couldn't get used to the sound. So I ended up with a Raptor. Slower but sounded much better.

I'm more interested in the Dual-Direct and Port-Injection systems. That is how they should do the Coyote engine if they do DI on it.

That's what the scuttlebutt is sounding like.

As the sound, I have a '13 F-150 FX4 with the 3.5EB. I hear a ton of turbo spool in the cab, especially after I removed the factory "turbonators" in the intake track. The exhaust note has never bothered me. I don't understand everyone's hang up on it.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the exhaust burble from my Cobra. But in my truck I don't feel it's the end all be all component some make it out to be.

I guess it boils down to the person. But I find it odd that in some areas; say, gen6 Camaro vs gen6 Mustang for example, choosing Mustang is looked down upon because it's not the better performing of the two and those who choose it becuse it provides slightly better DD livability are just wrong. While in this case, some will choose the lesser performing 6.2l v8 equipped model vs the 3.5EB equipped even though it'll perform worse but sound "better".

I know I ended up choosing the better sound over performance in this case. Im sure it will be a great truck. Just not for me with a V-6 gas motor.

That's a lot of power out of a v6 that has to deal with a lot of weight. Check back at 100K miles and see how well these motors and their turbo's hold up.

As much as it's supposed to be flogged, and some will try... I give it 50K.

I curse ford for the turbo Interceptor.

What do turbos struggle with?
-idling for long periods of time
-shutting off when they are still spinning
-taking off as soon as turned over

Everything police cars do!

I had a 2015 Explorer Sport w/ the 3.5L EB for a year... I cringed every time I turned it off and got out of it, and I could still here the thing spinning/whining winding down... it didn't sound right. Then there was that lag when I really didn't want it or need it to kick in...

My '13 3.5EB F-150 is at 102,733 miles. I'd imagine my pre-aluminium bodied truck weighs more than this Raptor. And though it may be true that I don't thrash mine on a regular basis, but it has seen it's fair share of time treking through the Rocky mountains many trails.

Needed fresh plugs at 100k, but other than that it runs like new. I will be swapping on new turbos at 150k though. I'll have the heads removed and intake valves "walnut washed" then as well, just to be safe.

I'll take the V8 growl over a 1MPG gain any day. From what i've read, even the aluminum/EB combo didn't net much gas mileage gain.

I'll take a MT over an AT Camaro as well even though I know it's the slower option. Preference.
