2016 Civic!!

WTF! 2016 Honda Civic wins Canadian Car of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. This think just hit the dealers not that long ago and it already has a significant recall involving the engine which caused them to stop selling until they are all fixed. How does this win???

Just because it's a Honda it's immune to everything i guess????

My distaste for imports has just grown even more-so.

Most times a "Car of the Year" Award is because of Advertising Dollars given a Magazine

Funny you should mention that car. Someone on another forum mentioned that car (2016 all new Civic) as almost being as nice as the Accord. So I went and drove one. Not even close, the Accord is WAY nicer ride. Saw this Camaro while I was out checking them out and the rest is history.

What are some comparisons that you can make between the Civic and Accord when you drove a Civic? I know some things the Civic Touring has that the Accord Touring does not, one being the Civic has an electric parking brake and the Accord Touring has a handbrake; the Civic Touring has rear heated seats (outboard rear seats only), and the Accord Touring does not.

While you'll never see me in a Honda, just because I find better bang for the buck on other brands and vehicles unless I find that in a honda one day which is unlikely... I do love how the term "ricer" is so loosely used. Ricers aren't just imports, there are actually a CRAP ton of DOMESTIC vehicles like mopar, camaros, mustangs and even vettes that are ricers. Rice = RACING INSPIRED COSMETIC ENHANCEMENT. Driving my evos around, I've been called a ricer many many times even though it was all stock EXTERIOR looking minus a lowering kit by a camaro/mustang drivers who had neons and chrome badges and stickers all around the car.

Car of the Year awards -be it Motortrend, North American COTY, Canadian COTY or any other that I can think of, do not look at reliability (and I lump recalls into reliability) as a criteria. One of the main reasons is because they test the cars for maybe a couple of days weeks to months before the awards are given out. That, usually, isn't enough time for something to go wrong on a car.

But even then ... so what if a car gets recalled? Take it to a dealer or authorized independent shop, they fix it for free. Its an annoyance, but nothing more. Plus in many instances when a car gets recalled there isn't necessarily anything wrong with every individual car sold. Its some cars from a particular batch with some sort of defect that wasn't quite caught in time. But all the cars that might be affected have to get checked out.

Furthermore, I would rather see more recalls than less. Because it is impossible to make every single part on every single assembly in every single car perfect. You can get very, very close (and every manufacturer is close to perfect in that regard). But there will always be a few parts that don't get installed properly, or made with some unknown defect, or the engineering team neglected to address some circumstance, or whatever else is behind the recall. So, given that mistakes (in one form or another will always happen) I would rather see automakers recall than not -because if they don't, I'm the one that has to pay to get their mistake fixed.

No, because Kitchener Ontario Canada is in the same country as Oshawa Ontario Canada. Infact, they're less than 2 hours away from each other on the same highway.

They also have a plant in Ontario, an hour or so north of Toronto.

But at any rate, no car made in North America is officially classed as an import within the NAFTA free trade zone. Public perception on the other hand does not follow the same rules.

It's funny when people say they won't buy an import.....no way in hell you will find me one one of those jap cars says Jethro. ....yet you have 4 major honda plants in the USA. 2 in Ohio....1 in Indiana and 1 in Alabama. This Doesn't include Toyota or Hyundai. These plants employ thousands of North American workers straight up. That's not including the thousands of indirect jobs created by these plants. And yes 2 plants in Ontario Canada plus an engine plant. Next time your hear somebody chirping about those imports. ...no way in hell I'd own um. Remeber these numbers...... it's not completely developed in merica. But they a completely built by mericans. And Canadians. It's a global business now

I would say that the new Civic has at least five awards and most likely more to come...
