The day has come: Christine is 'done'.

Yes. I got the call this morning. We don't have the money to fix her anymore. But the thing is, they're not selling it because we'd still lose our butts on it. So my Dad told me the following:

"Keep the keys to the Edge till you graduate and then some. Your mum can take the Explorer since if it breaks down I can still drive her to work. We just don't have the cash"

:O

DO my ears deceive me?

*Looks in pocket, and in his spot*

Nope. Christine, with all the repairs needed would be totaled. The insurnace won't get involved and since as I stated above it's a pointless gambit, and I need reliable transportation.. I've been given custody of the Edge until I graduate.

This calls for a celebration:

Unfortunately, it's still a Ford. But it's giving me an indication of what the Duratec can do in a 4200lb vehicle w/ AWD. The Mustang is really looking to get plugged with the 3.7L version of this same engine.. (the rumorflying is almost identical to Sept 2008 here) and still stay around 3500-3600lbs. GM needs to tweak the programming in that LLT. Nao.

And I am fearing for GM. Please tell me the LLT is going into the Equinox with an AWD option? The Edge is crazy.. just needs it's gearing tweaked so it doesn't kill the engine. Word to GM about that for the Traverse (which shares the trans architecture with Ford) <_<

It needs to. The 3.0L's a good engine only for smaller cars. The reason it's getting such dismal fuel economy ratings (26 in the LaCrosse vs 27 for the 3.6L in the same car) is because the engine has to rev up to 5100 RPM or something to hit its maximum torque output.

Holden figured out how to get it working right in the Commodore and the 3.0L SIDI is doing amazing there, over 30 MPG in a RWD full size car. Problem is, the EPA wouldn't let GM use Holden's tune in the states.

Yeah. It's probably why they went 3.7 on the Mustang plans. On accel I am REVVING THE PISS out of that motor (1.5K away from redline..). Then again the trans also drops 3 freaking gears to pass something when I put the hammer down.

Scared the crap out of me when it first happened. Then I realized.. "Wait, this is normal? No wonder the Edge has s*itty fuel economy."

Not to mention it cruises @ 2-3K RPM normally.

They need to move to larger Sixes for these vehicles. The power is there, but not the economy.

Ah - and I was hoping we would be able to take sledgehammers to it.

I'll even supply the sledges.

As of today, yeah. I have the Edge until I graduate and get a job. Then I have to find my own vehicle. :/

The Exploder/Christine can only go around 40 miles from home base (toledo) due to issues with it now (non transmission but still costly). 'rents decided that that was good enough for my mom to use while I got the 'Good car'.

Couldn't use my dad's truck since it's not really his (Country Club supplied company vehicle) and I'm not on the insurance for it. Not to mention he uses it EVERY freaking day 24/7/365. And no, he doesn't have another vehicle. Never had the need for one since they'd just buy him a new truck every 5-7 years.

Last vehicle he actually owned was that 1979 Camaro Z/28. Sold it for the reason stated above: he didn't need it. He kept driving that '77 Scottsdale 4x4 until we moved to toledo. Went from Ranger to F250 to Cheyanne to the current Silverado he drives.

Yeah, sounds pretty cool and the day I brought it to class and people heard it they said "I've never heard an Edge sound like that..?"

My response: I guess they chopped the balls off the '08s and '09s.

But she will still haunt me. It's in Toledo, so when I have to go to the 'rents house for something..
