Break in routine
I've had my Camaro LT2 RS for a few days now and it is my first Camaro and really my first muscle car and its freaking incredible, this has to be the best car I've ever driven. I've had several people tell me that I should be going through some sort of "break in" process. One guy said to drive it for 500 miles before pushing the engine, another said don't drive over 50mph for the first 200 miles. Well that didn't make any sense to me... 5 minutes after I drove off the lot, I was driving it hard. Considering I really don't know what these guys are talking about, is there something I should be doing?
Also... for some odd reason I cannot figure out how to get the dang fog lights to turn on! Am I missing something?

There are many threads about break in.All make good sence but I say read some of them then deside how you want to break your camaro I took it easy up too 500 miles then drove it a little harder. Then drove it to vegas Hauling Butt that a extra 600 miles. Then at 1100 really test her out and now at 1500 gona get the oil changed tommarrow and i think Im good to go .....But I have 2 or three times run through the gears at 4000rpm !!!! Way Fun after tomarrow we will try a 5000rpm run then Its On!!

and about the 'fog lights'... since you have the RS option, you don't have 'fog lights'. the lights on the bumper are your DRLs. they come on when your lights are off & cannot be activated with the headlights.
ps - there are a few threads that describe this in a little more detail somewhere

Camaro77, there are a lot of different theroies on this, some are steeped on "old wives tales" form the "good old days" and some are quite valid. IMO, if you intend to keep you car as long as possible, and MAXIMIZE the trouble free miles. Open up you owners manual and follow the break-in procedure there. A word to the wise.....Its truely all up to you and no one to blame for any results that are outside the MFG suggestions for your break-in.

Break the car in in the way you intend to drive the sucker for the rest of its life. So for me its hard. |
