New details on GT350 revealed

Some new details on GT350 revealed in interview with Ford's Shelby brand manager, Jim Owens.

>The flat-plane 5.2-liter V8 will make more than 100 hp/liter, meaning that at minimum, the GT350 is a 520-hp car.
Until now, Ford had only been saying that it would be "more than 500 hp."

>Redline is 8250 RPM—in line with our 8200 RPM estimate, based on our eyeballing the tach at the LA unveiling.

>A race version is coming, and it will be named GT350S.

>He said the car will be a "relative performance value" but not cheap. Our sources hint at a starting price at around $50K for the GT350 and $70K for the GT350R. Mustang 6G says the final pricing proposal is apparently being submitted this week.

>On-sale date is "earlier" in Q4. Ford has not revealed the model year "for a reason." And that reason is, per a source we trust, that a limited number of early cars will probably be sold as 2015 models.

>Figure production numbers to be in the Boss 302/Shelby GT500 range for the GT350 and 302 Laguna Seca range for the GT350R.

That thing is gonna be a rocket on and off the road course. I know guys push the current 5.0 to 8k so I wonder if this one will twist to 9k with just a tune.

So two race versions a GT350S and a GT350R, why? Or is that just a typo on Road and Tracks part and they meant the R both times?

I'm fairly excited for this and am seriously considering selling my Camaro, if my local dealership can guarantee me an allocation.

I would assume that the GT350S would be an actual race car.

The GT350R is just a package on top of the regular GT350. The GT350S will be the full race car version raced in professional series i believe.

Correct. GT350R will carry a VIN and be 100% street legal ala the z/28. The GT350S will be a track-only car and not be street legal.

It will be a turnkey competition car like the Boss 302S.

^ just looked it up

Ah gotcha just looked it up and the Boss 302S is the full on race build. Did not notice that before with the S as the designator. Weird that is uses an S though.

Didn't see this posted anywhere. It looks mean. With a bit of a drop it would look downright menacing, especially in the gray color.

I don't think I would ever buy one of the regular 350s, but a 350R could be pretty tempting as a track car if it is as fast as it seems it will be.
