China National Tire & Rubber Company to purchase Pirelli

http://www.autoblog.com/2015/03/23/c...lli-7-billion/

Quote:
Pirelli shareholders have agreed to a deal for the China National Tire & Rubber Company, a division of the state-owned China National Chemical Corporation, to buy the Italian tire concern for 7.1 billion euros ($7.7 billion US).
Not sure how you guys feel about this. IMO I hope this doesn't go through.

I wouldn't be too concerned. Pirelli is the 5th leading tire manufacturer in the world behind Bridgestone, Michelin, Continental and Goodyear. Their tires are manufactured around the world in various places including Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela and the United States. China National Tire & Rubber Company has said that they do not plan on making sweeping changes and believe the current management and business model is sound, but believe their access to China's market can double their volume. They want to make money, not destroy the company.

As long as they don't get rid of the Pirelli girls I'm just fine with this!

Also, the making China synonymous with poor quality needs to stop. You can get extremely high-quality stuff from China, but you have to pay for it. Our unnecessary need for cheap leads to low quality.

I think it's OK to not want all manufacturing to be in or owned by China.

Hmm like the steel used to build the bay bridge. Expensive absolute crap.

Why not? They could probably buy half of the US if they'd demand to cash out America's debt to them.

Well just under 7% anyway, or more importantly $4,000 from every man, woman, and child living in America, but who is counting.

While China is known for making some subpar products, I don't think a company with over $7 billion invested would risk hurting their huge investment by changing anything in Pirelli's successful formula.

Only time will tell though! I don't run Pirelli's anyway.

At least the Chinese will have somewhere to put their toxic wastes other than baby bottles and children's toys.
