any home hvac guys among us?

i need a little wiring help from someone who knows more about a home ac system than i do. i am replacing my condensor fan in the unit out side and the new fan is a 5 lead vs the old 3 and says it needs a separate run capacitor even though i have a dual run already in there. can any one give me a wiring guide?

2 browns go to cap, which it says is not included so hopefully you bought one.
The other 2 wires go to the contactor. Green to ground.

You can hook it up in a 3 wire configuration also. The motor should have the schematic on a sticker on the side of it. It should be something like this: black wire to one side of contactor, white wire to common terminal on capacitor, brown wire to fan terminal on capacitor. Cap all other wires as they are not used. Just make sure the capacitor is the proper microfarad and voltage or it will not work.

i just cheaped out and bought the factory 3 lead replacement motor. seemed less complicated and the price gap was not that big. that and a new cap was less than 2. seemed like i could not muck it up much just switching out part for part.......

totally posted this in the wrong section. doh!

No worries, glad to help! Pretty simple swap. Just make sure you turn the power off and the capacitor bleeds off before you start changing wires. 220v is not something to take lightly.

This is not correct, don't do this.

As an OEM commercial HVAC sales rep for 10 years (~30 Brands) I can tell you that the factory replacement condenser fan motor is always a worthy expense. Generic replacements typically do not last as long. Some OEM manufacturers are worse than others about eating generic condenser fan motors. Other parts are less critical - blower motors for example. The heavy stresses put on condenser motors in service require them to be more substantial if you want them to live at all.
