Is there a new trick to sell a new car?

Going to keep it short. I heard dealer here had a Hellcat. Wanted to ck 1 out up close. So I walked in 2 guys standing there looked at me and go back talking. I walk up to the Hellcat and I'm looking at it another salesman walks by and sez nothing. Last time I bought something as soon as u parked somebody was heading in your direction. At least you were greeted when u walked in the door. I drove my truck there because I didn't want them to all drop what they were doing to ck the CAMARO out!

I'm glad for the non pressure sales. As long as they're there when I'm ready for some action, I'm good.

If it was a Hellcat, the car was either a sold cust order or has a ridiculous mark up to it (which may or may not be actually posted on the car). At least this is the case with any FL dealers that have these on the lot.

If you were just there to look, then I don't see why you want them to bother you. Chances are you know more about the Hellcat then them.

You should have at least been greeted, but I've been left alone for the most part lately. I think there is an effort to be a little more low key.

I had a similar experience this weekend at a Ford dealer. I drove there with my wife in my 2012 Boss 302, walked over to line of new Mustangs and checked out a few GT models. Then went inside and again checked out a new one on the showroom floor. On the way in we walked by two salesmen just chatting by the door, and several were walking the floor.

At no point did any of them say "Hi" or offer to answer any questions. I was there to check out a new Mustang, and maybe a 4 door sedan for my wife. I would have appreciated someone at least introducing themselves and offering to answer any questions. We ended up leaving and going home.

My best experiences lately have been when I contacted the dealer via the internet beforehand and had already negotiated a deal.

Here's the trick...

You walk up to the first salesman you see and say "I'm interested in buying a <whatever>"

It works every time.

I totally understand about not being greeted. Salespeople should at least say hello or how are you, etc.

But also the receptionist should be up front and center. Lately thats what I run into...you can look without being bothered but if you are serious you go to the receptionist to get a salesperson.

Has to be the big wad of cash hanging out of your pocket.
