So I am all for getting discounts on my insurance, I need all the extra cash I can get for mods
. But has anyone tried this? I feel like if the insurance company knew how I actually drove my rates would skyrocket Anyone have any experience trying it out and what are your driving habits?

Because of that hag Flo, I wouldn't go to Progressive if they paid me to switch.

All the major insurance companies are offering this same "deal". I've been with Allstate for twenty-something years and my agent recently offered this to me and my wife. My wife directly asked her what would happen when the "snapshot" records my autocross runs. Her reply was something along the lines of "Well, maybe that's not a great option for you guys." ROFL

I did it when I had a corolla. Basically drive like a grandma for 60-90 days. Don't stop quickly or suddenly and avoid driving during rush hour traffic, late at night or "bar let out" time and avoid high speeds. Ala 75+.
I did it and received a good discount, 20% or so. Went from like $140 down to $108 I believe. |

As long as I am not costing them money in claims and pay my premiums on time, they should not give a damn about how I drive.
As soon as I cost them money in claims they can care all they like. That's the deal.

The problem with that unit, when I tried it, is that it was EXTREMELY sensitive. What they considered "hard braking" was me letting off the gas to decelerate and just covering the brake pedal to get the taillights to light up.
Maybe it's the angle of the OBD port on the Camaro (btw, it got in the way of my clutching foot when I was wearing boots) but it was a joke. There's a section of their site where you can monitor the information the unit sends.

My manager did it on his Civic.. He got frustrated because he couldn't get any savings. He said if he drove any less alive, he would be standing still.. Lol

My mom did this and she got the same discount. but you have to drive almost perfect. no hard stops. cannot change lanes a lot, not drive at odd hours of the night etc. Not to hard to do.

I did it as well but only got a 4% discount, they said I had a lot of hard stops. I disagree with what they call a hard stop, but 4% is better than nothing.
