You can spend a lot or a little on tools. It depends on your budget and what you plan to do with them. I'd rather have a few very good quality tools for the jobs I do often. Snap-on makes the best tools in the industry. Whoever told you otherwise is very misinformed. They are expensive but worth it if you rely on your tools day in and out.
Just my opinion based on 22 years in the industry.

Honestly, if you're starting out get Craftsman. Buy it once, and get free replacements from sears. Can't beat that, right? We use them in Aviation starting out just for this reason. We usually stock Snap On once we can pay for them. So Chromepusher is on the money, which is why when the time comes start swapping out the craftsman tools. Snap on sockets and drives are relatively inter-changeable with Craftsman. I do it daily if I'm too lazy to walk away from a Lycoming.

We also don't label our crap so if we leave that 3/4 drive in an engine..

"Wasn't me.."

Craftsman for me. Lifetime replacement. Good tools. I bought a set just to work on our vehicles. I've had junk tools most of my life because I was moving around in the Army and nice stuff tends to disappear when you PCS. Now that I'm out, I bought a good set of Craftsman, like my Gram bought Dad. His have lasted about 60 years, and he was a mechanic and a machinist. Good enough for me.

If it can dodge a plane it can dodge a ball.. I mean car (So we backed a turboprop into the chest at one point.. it doesn't fly.) Seriously. The School's larger chest is over 40 years old. Alot of our snap on stuff is that old too, and side by side is almost indistinguishable from the new stuff..

Tells ya somethin'

They're just.. soo damn expensive when you're starting out.

I use craftsman and snap on every day for work.... I honestly dont notice a difference. When it comes to my tools at home I just cant justify spending the money on snap on when I can get life time warranty with craftsman. JMHO

No I really don't know. My Brother who works a lot on his 1970 Camaro really likes Mac Tools. Me, I just have Craftsman, really don't use them enough. I bought a nice set 13 years ago when I got married and they pretty much just sit in my garage. Craftsman are nice because they have a lifetime warranty but they aren't as expensive as Mac or Snap On.
