Funniest mechanical issue with a crappy car

a friend of mine had a mustang 5.0 and it was a piece! i remember the first time i started hanging out with him, he was driving to a party, and the windshield was getting foggy, so with him driving i turn on the defroster, big mistake! smoke started shooting out of the air vent and we had to roll down the windows and drive ace ventura style, a week later we were driving with one of his friends in the front seat, and he asks if he has the heat on, which it wasnt, the front passanger floor board had gotten so hot, that the guy's shoe melted to the floor. if only he still had it, best cash for clunker ever!

1986 dodge aries. defroster only worked on the pass side. so riding to school in the mornings, id have my buddy (who owned the car) do the gas and braking, and id look thru the window on my side and steer the car.

true tandem driving. it was fun stuff, esp on the highway.

Thumbs down

my dad always got these older cars for his work, and they gave him like an extra 300 a month if he used his car instead of work supplied one. well one of his 'gems' was a 1983 or 1984 Pontiac Bonneville sedan which was basically a 78-84 Malibu but with different front and rear fascias and dashboard and steering wheel. and being that it was the same as the Malibu sedan the rear windows did NOT roll down, not as if they did not work, you really could NOT roll them down, they had no crank for manual opening or button for a power window opening. what you got instead was these vent windows near the back edge of the rear doors you open instead, i would love to meet the designer of that and kick him in the junk with a steel toe boot . Well in this Bonnie, the AC did NOT work and the rear 'windows' were broken they would fall out if you tried to open them so my dad had them taped shut with scotch tape on the inside of the door. i hate, i mean i really HATED that car . I was so glad he traded it in on a late 70s Pontiac Bonneville Safari wagon which was based on the bigger Caprice wagons. it also did not have A/C (did not come with it from the factory) but at least we could roll all the windows down as well as the one in the rear door/tail gate.

Wife had an 86 Honda crx. Had a crazy looking carb on it that had a bad base gasket. Couldn't find the right gasket kit at the parts stores so I broke down and went to a dealer. Parts guy said 3 barrel or throttle body? I said um? He came out and looked and a few later the entire service department was gawking at it's one barrel carb. Kept asking where did you get that? It came with the car. Said Honda on it but the part number didn't come up on the computer or any books. I ended up using some cardboard off of a notebook. Worked like a champ. Car got 60mpg on the highway till 5th gear went out. Took me two months of trial and error to find a tranny to fit it. Dropped it down to 45mpg. Makes me laugh at the hybrid commercials. Always had a he'll of a time finding parts to fit it. Man was I glad when she sold it

Well on my first car it had been hit on the pax side twice, once by me.. and another by my brother. Well that second time was what took the cake. Had to put a whole new door on for the second time.. but this time the paint didn't match. So they did what any good shop would do.. repainted the door and the hood which had a ding and got repaired..

One slight problem.

Right paint.. Wrong car and Cure temp..

Come to pick it up, paint on the hood had bubbled and flaked. The door however... Pop go the Fiberglass. And that was 2 years ago. This was taken 2 minutes ago.

how about having to refill coolant in the morning before going to work, and in the evening after work?

i still think the shoe melting floor boards and smoke screen defroster is the top of the list lol although the tandum driving is impressive, you could both eat and drive at the same time, but when we turned on the defroster everyones head went out the window cause the smoke was so bad lol

My old Cutlass Supreme burned a quart of oil every 60 miles, the windshield leaked when it rained (I could soak my passenger if I took a hard left turn). The steel on one of the doors rusted through so bad that I had to use a whole roll of black duct tape to hold it onto the door. Bumper fell off due to rusty frame. Lost tail lights because the piece of steel they grounded to rusted off of the car. But overall it was a nice car to drive.

My truck has a lift kit on it. and the shifter is lowered but the rubber part is still wide because its wider at the bottom on my shifter. So i burn my hand occasionally from shifting it because of the transmission heat lol.
