Commits weekly crime

Civilization: Beyond Earth
It'll be out on October 24th. Sid Meier makes amazing computer games...and the Civilization series has always been fun to play.
Frankly, I wish they made more games like this...rather than cookie cutter 1st Person Shooters.

I never played Civ5, but 4 and 3 were awesome... and 2 and 1.
This reminds me of Sid's Alpha Centauri series and that's friggin legit. Can't wait to see more of this. |

PMC...I am not a big fan of games like these being made for consoles. The original Civs were made to be played with mouse & keyboard, and all the options that gives you. Using a controller can really slow things down in some cases...and of course, then there's the whole Lowest Common Denominator factor. I'm sad to see computer games being dumbed down to be played on consoles.

The thing about that, is now they have smart glass. You can use that as a keyboard and mouse. So the tech is there.

Looks almost like its an expansion/mod of Civ V. Could just be built off that engine though. Either way, I'll probably pass. I didn't really like the whole 'alien worlds' aspect of the game in II (never played I or III)
The only thing that I haven't liked about the games is the combat rules. I found it very annoying in II: the fate of your entire army depended on a single unit. For IV it wasn't so bad ... until somebody sent a superstack of a few dozen units your way. In V the '1 military & 1 civilian per tile' rule was somehow worse than fighting through superstacks: with a few ranged units & a couple horseman (or tanks, depending on era) and the cities were fairly easily captured. One new feature that I think would be really cool for the next Civ game is an actual spherical globe. Toss in a few pentagons into the hex grid & you've got a Goldberg Polyhedron (wikipedia)
