People afraid of posting plate numbers?

Why do some people black out or blur their plate numbers when posting pics? Its not like its any different from driving down the road. People are going to see the plate one way or another..

I would say that they don't want others to figure out their real name over their screen name.

Personal, and property, security.

It's been a common practice for many years, in many areas of the country, to meet a potential buyer, when privately showing-selling your vehicle, on neutral ground...for this very reason.

Some may call it "paranoia", while others simply see it as being "prudent".

Ever notice on Google earth street view they blur out peoples license plates... Even on cars sitting in their driveway..... Duh, if its in your driveway they have your address right there.... Do a search online for that address and you have the person that lives there.

I think it's funny that people cover their plates for security reasons , but people with personalized vanity plates, plaster them all over the forums.

Because whatever goes on the internet, stays on the internet.
Privacy concerns.
Warranty, Insurance, or general background investigations.
Internet images get copied and re-posted for other intentions.
Guilt by association.
Taken out of context could be become poster child in an adversarial crusade against street racing or environmental assault.
Those are good reasons.

Good reasons not to worry about any of that:
1) ?
