2015 Stingray 4G LTE

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but here is the news on the 2015 Stingray 4G LTE system!

Just the Facts:
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the 2015 Chevrolet Volt are among several GM vehicles to come optionally equipped with OnStar 4G LTE, the automaker announced on Sunday at the 2014 International CES.
OnStar is being positioned as a provider of high-speed connectivity in vehicles.
Other Chevrolet vehicles to get the new OnStar option include the 2015 Chevrolet Impala and Malibu, followed by the Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark and Spark EV.

LAS VEGAS — The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the 2015 Chevrolet Volt are among several GM vehicles to come optionally equipped with OnStar 4G LTE, the automaker announced on Sunday at the 2014 International CES.

OnStar is being positioned as a provider of high-speed connectivity in vehicles. The data connection is provided by AT&T's network.

Other Chevrolet vehicles to get the new OnStar option include the 2015 Chevrolet Impala and Malibu, followed by the Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark and Spark EV.
GM also noted that the majority of the Chevrolet lineup in the U.S. and Canada will have a 4G LTE connection built in at vehicle launch. More models will be announced later this year.

Buick, GMC and Cadillac are also expected to get this new feature, although GM did not provide any details at this point.

Pricing and data packages for OnStar 4G LTE will be announced later this year. Flexible pricing plans are anticipated, including pricing for use on a limited basis, such as weekend trips.

The 4G LTE rollout will bring a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot to Chevy vehicles, allowing passengers to connect their personal devices, such as smartphones, laptops and tablets, to high-speed wireless Internet. GM said each vehicle can accommodate multiple devices as one time.

"Chevrolet is expected to implement the broadest deployment of 4G LTE in the automotive industry," said Alan Batey, senior vice president of Global Chevrolet, in a statement. "The fact that OnStar with 4G LTE will be available in models that range from the Chevrolet Spark to the Silverado to the Corvette, is indicative of our broad commitment to deliver more value and convenience through smart technology applications."

That's cool. I wonder since it's an Onstar offering, that some previous years i.e. 2014 will be able to have that option retrofitted with this connectivity? Or is it just for the new 2015's?

OnStar needs to do more stuff like this. Not everyone wants a subscription. Just offer some services on a pay as you go basis.
