Dodge's answer to the Z/28
Interesting article. Dodge is developing a Supercharged V8 Challenger. It is their answer to Chevy's Camaro Z/28. It looks the same as other Challengers. Check it out.

They should get Dan Gurney's company to make them an AAR Challenger to compete with the z/28

"Challenger muscle car, and that power levels may come close to matching the 640 horsepower of the 8.4-liter V-10 in SRT’s Viper supercar. It will need all the horses it can muster, as the Camaro Z/28 is rated at 500 horsepower, the Camaro ZL1 at 580 horsepower and the Shelby Mustang GT500 at a staggering 662 horsepower."
640 horsepower? That is a lot more than a Z/28's 500 HP. Stock. |

Yes but its gotta have all that power when your trying to move something that's as heavy as a small house! I'm only kidding. I'm lookin forward to this. Muscle car wars are still alive and well

Actually the hellcat is old news. This engine was slated for release last year but was pushed back during the development of the Dart. Motorauthority is somewhat late on this one.

The Camaro is also known to be heavy and it has handled even better than the Mustang, which is lighter. With the right stuff even the heavy Challenger could beat the Camaro. Of course, that would come at a hefty price.

To my understanding, Dodge is going to let the SRT8 Challenger keep up with the ZL1; however, they will have the SRT Barracuda as an answer to the Z/28 and whatever Ford whips up for the next-gen.

It's going to need a lot more then power to match either the ZL1 or the Z/28 at what they are built for. Both are meant to be corner carvers, not straight line screamers. It looks like its targeting straight at the GT500 with the horsepower numbers they are speculating. The don't mention anything about suspension tuning.
