fan blows up at 80 mph!

My mother in law owns a house in the Yarnel/Peebles Valley AZ and that's currently where the huge fires have been raging. If you're from AZ then you already know about this. There was a major tragedy where 19 hotshot firefighters parished. Well my mom in law, my wife and myself went to see if her house survived and I suggested taking my 4 wheel dive blazer just in case we would need to have to drive on something else other than a road. About an hour into our drive I heard a bam and I instantly knew something happened to my fan. Turns out my shroud somehow got into my fan causeing it to send plastic shards all in the engine compartment. In the process it took out my radiator but luckly nothing else. We had to call for help and my brother in law picked up a new radiator and fan but he was an hour and a half away so all we could do was wait and sweat. The only tool I had in my truck was a vise grip but I was able to take everything apart so when he gets there I would have it ready to go. That was after a cool down of course. I was able to do the repair on the side of the road but didn't have the tool to remove the busted up fan. Good news though! The truck made it home with a busted fan and the mom in laws house survived the fire. A lot of heartbreak with the tragedy of the firefighters but even with out troubles everthing turned out ok.

Man that sucks!!! Might want to consider keeping a basic tool kit in all your vehicles. Glad you have the skills to fix the problem, could have been a more expensive fix.

Thanks and ya, normaly, I pack a tool box for trips like this but wouldn't you know I forgot it. This one time I forget and something happens. Sheesh! I was real lucky the shard didn't take out hoses and wireing. Seen that before. But we were able to limp home.
