my cousin lost his keys

so my cousin lost his keys to his GT500. his keys do not have a chip inside. the chip is attached to the key so i would assume he can have it done at other places besides the stealership like lowes or homedept is this true?

anyone who can help out would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Best bet is to call the dealer with the VIN and they should be able to get a new key.

No. He will need to contact the dealer. The chip may not be inside, but if its attached to the side then it won't let it start the car unless it is exactly the same. I had this issue with a past car. Had something get on the side of the key where the chip was, and the car wouldn't start until it was cleaned off.

I don't know how Ford is but I work at a Chevrolet dealership in parts and we require more than just the VIN number. We must have proof of ownership like the title or regristration, it has to be in your name and a valid ID. We can not release any key information to anyone other than who it is registered to by the state. I would take more than the VIN just in case.
