New Auto Index Redefines "American Made" Cars

Found this and thought it was interesting. The cars are rated by the following scale.

Profit Margin, 6%: 6 if US company; 0 if foreign | Labor, 6%: 6 if assembled in US; 0 if foreign | Research & Development, 6%: 6 if US company; 3 if foreign and assembled in US; 1 if foreign and imported | Inventory, Capital, & Other Expenses, 11%: 11 if assembled in US; 0 if assembled outside of US | Engine, 14%: 14 if US produced; 0 if not | Transmission: 7 if US produced; 0 if not | Body, Interior, Chassis, Electrical & Other, 50%: 2013 AALA% divided by 2.

The Camaro is ranked 23rd.

I still want that t shirt that has a picture of the Camaro and says "DETROIT MUSCLE" above the pic. And under it says "designed in Australia, built in Canada."

Interesting, I am surprised how few Ford vehicles are near the top.

I would like to see a comparison where they calculate how much extra money a company makes by making a particular choice. I know it would be complex but as an example: VW received US taxpayer money to build a plant in Chattanooga, so comparing the cost of building that plant with no subsidies elsewhere, and considering the taxes they avoid by not having an "imported car", how much extra money goes to the bottom line of VW (and leaves the US). I know it would be a bit convoluted but would be an interesting exercise.

The Camaro will move into the top 10 for Gen 6 as it will score 6 each for INV and Labour.
