2015 Mustang Power Plant Rumors
Strong Rumor: 2015 Mustang Engine Lineup Leaked, Includes 475 hp 5.0 Coyote
http://www.stangtv.com/features/car-...es-475-hp-5-0/ "The final rumored engine according to the source would be a slightly revised 5.0 Coyote. Firing yet another salvo in the ponycar wars, the S550 Mustang GT would be carrying a big stick and running a 475 hp version of the popular 302. It’s hard to say exactly how Ford will achieve 475 hp. We would speculate the use of direct injection would help with this since the cylinder heads are already cast with direct injection in mind. Adding DI could allow for more power in the form of either a higher compression ratio, or more aggressive cam profiles, and timing. It may also open the door to further improvements in intake manifold design, and even a cylinder shut down system for cruising, improving fuel economy and emissions while allowing for V8 power on demand. No doubt the engineers have found a way to boost power and ensure the 2015 Mustang debuts as king-of-the-muscelcar-hill." |

If true, that's pretty stout for a naturally aspirated 5L.

No surprise here. Ford spent good money developing the coyote motor and were able to achieve their power goals without DI. The next step is DI in the coyote. I hope GM's new v8 will make more than the estimated 450 hp.

If GM doesnt make the 6th gen lighter than the next mustang, it wont be able to keep up with the LT1...That would be a lot of HP for a stock Mustang GT!!! Crazy I'd say!

With DOHC (more aggressive cam lobes), Boss 302 IM and DI..500 hp would be the ideal figure imo....7000+ redline. This motor will be revolutionary for American muscle. I just hope the next stang doesn't look like a fusion coupe. The 2013 Mustang looks as good as it gets for a Mustang.

They need to do something as the 5th Gen is still killing it in sales.
Maybe instead of more power they could offer better transmissions for the same price.

That 450 LT1 "estimate" better be a lie, otherwise the Camaro is ******.

V6 sales are usually Mustangs bread and butter anyways. Now hopefully GM won't screw up the Camaro. The Camaro great sales have very little to do with total HP. We are HP junkies in this forum, but most people buy the Camaro for its looks, not its HP numbers. But I'm sure GM will setup and increase the HP numbers across the board to keep in competive with the Mustang. |
