Does anyone know about old motorcycles?
I know this isn't Camaro related, but I was wondering if anyone on here knows about motorcycles, specifically 1960s-1970's bikes?
I am thinking about buying a 1960's or 1970's project motorcycle. I am transferring to University next year (Fall 2014) and I am wanting a bike to ride to and from campus, so that my Camaro doesn't suffer the door dings and car accidents that are inevitable on a campus. I am looking for something I can work on this summer, and something that won't be too extremely difficult. I have worked on dirt bikes for years, and am learning more and more about cars, but my knowledge on old bikes is pretty limited, so I was wondering if there was any knowledgeable person on here I could talk to. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it! Pm me or comment if you can |

Commits weekly crime

It's sad when the bike I first got was a late 70's Honda, then an early 70's Suzuki. New.
I'm Old. Sigh.

Aubrey64, what kind of bike are you actuallky looking for? small, medium, large? a cruiser? to be honest, there won't be many out there of that age that will have a lot of parts availabe, other than a Harley, and even at that, it could get expensive.

The old ones are going up in price. The scooter store near me sells a 125cc motorcycle that looks like a 70's motorcycle for less then $2500. You should look into something like that. Then don't have to worry about reliability, and you get a warranty.

Sir Nuke is right - unless it's a Harley you're probably going to have a nightmare finding parts for it, and if you don't know how to work on them you might not want to depend on it for transportation. Meybe a 10 speed is a more viable solution for college transport if you're looking to save a few bux.

Smaller 1970's and 1980's Hondas arent too bad. Plenty of OEM parts available.

Thanks guys for your input, I am leaning towards a mid 1970s Honda CB100. I want something smaller, and something that isn't going to be too much in gas. I will only be driving this too and from campus, and if I find that it is a good mode of transportation than I may use it more. But thanks for the input! I still have a lot of research to do, so I am not too stuck on one bike as of now

Me, my brother, and my dad collect the Honda "Dreams". Love'em, they have that retro old school look. My 1969 160 Honda Dream still has the original tires on it....only 6,000 original miles:

As soon as I read your first post I was thinking Honda CB400. My buddy had a cb550 and it ran pretty good. You will be able to learn to work on them or you will find an old guy who would love to help work on it. If you want something fun, try to find an Aprilia RS 50cc.
Whatever you get you will have a great time with it. |
