Cars that need a small block

Saw this discussed on Motortrend's WOT.

I believe that the XTS and the ATS need a small block. I also agree that the Fisker Karma needs one
Opinions?

All cars need a small block. No other engine should exist other than the small block. Duramaxes are small blocks too, so diesel and LPG are covered. /perfect world

Infact, all things should run on small blocks! Alarm clocks, toasters, laptops, small dogs, your neighbor's annoying children..

XTS: Yeah, let's not do another FWD V8.

ATS: LT1 will fit but GM's probably going for the LF3 instead.

Maybe on the AWD model?

I wish I had a small block alarm clock...

It would be less likely to start on fire that way, and probably not much less efficient.

Solution: Stop doing large FWD Cadillacs.

Is there a V8 powered ATS in the works (perhaps an ATS-V)?

The ATS-V is supposed to be running the TT 3.6 V6, but the LS3 and the LT1 will fit. I also heard that the Alpha will need some re-working to support the power and torque of a V8.

ATS-V will probably be LF3 powered, not LT1.

And I've heard that its been designed from the beginning to accommodate 4 bangers through high-output V8s, since it will be underpinning the CTS & 6th Gen Camaro as well as the ATS.

Weren't you saying the reverse not that long ago, that it would probably be getting a gen V and not a turbo6?

I can't see it not having a v8 if the Camaro will have one for the 6th gen - unless the LF3 is really something special - which I hope for but I am not so sure...

I believe it was C&D that said that the smaller, weight saving parts of the Alpha platform had to be revised and strengthend for V8 applications. I really do hope it gets a V8 and not the turbo 6. I've never been a fan of turbo engines.

I said the LT1 would fit, but back then engineers were still deciding on LT1 vs LF3. Seems like LF3's the predominant rumor now.

All rumors. Technically there isn't a such thing as an ATS-V.

I just hope that it is a tuned up version of the LF3 with something special as opposed to the same thing you can get in a next gen CTS or XTS

I guess that depends on what the LF3 is rated at off the shelf. If its a 400 hp engine out of the box, I don't have issue with it being in an ATS-V as is. More would be better, but 400 hp @ 3600lbs is a pretty good combo. If its 350 ... not so much
