GM Teases 2014 Cadillac ELR

Cadillac ELR Gets Final Teaser Before Official Reveal [Photo Gallery]
AutoEvolution

January 14, 2013

We don`t have long to go now, and we will be bringing you live photos from the official unveiling of the production version of the Cadillac ELR, the sporty range-extender hybrid GM hopes will offer a much-needed sporty alternative to the highly-popular Volt.

Now, close to its official reveal at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, in Detroit, Cadillac has decided to tease the ELR one last time, and thus have decided to show the world a new batch of teaser photos, which do reveal a little bit more of the new car’s exterior and interior.

It will get the same bold angular styling seen on other Cadillacs, and if the ATS and XTS are anything to go by in the styling department, the same shape translated into a sportier coupe shape should prove to great effect. The dashboard looks highly-modern, and shows features a large touchscreen interface, through which the driver can check out the usual car functions, plus the additional ones required for EVs and hybrids.

It is one of the more interesting cars at the American motor show, and we can`t wait to know more about it. We are also curious to see if it does, in fact, keep the old 1.4-liter petrol engine, used in the Chevy Volt (with which it shares its underpinnings), as it is rather outdated, and such a car could really use the benefit of a much smaller turbocharged unit, as it would be kept at constant rpms, and therefor would be highly-efficient - GM did announce this a while back, but they have not mentioned it since.

I wonder if that grille can open up where those slats are to provide cooling to the engine (if needed). Looks cool.

I don't know how I feel about the dash controls, but the rest of the interior including the gauges and back seats look freaking amazing.
