Saruman singing Heavy Metal Christmas songs.

I can't decide if this is worse than William Shatner singing or the best thing ever.

I'll listen to it tomorrow. But on a slight tangent ... I've often thought about how awesome it would be to have classical compositions re-worked into a 4 or 5 piece metal context. I understand what Yevgenny Malmsteen, and to a lesser extend Trans Siberian Orchestra and (in the opposite direction, but to the same end) Apocilyptica have done a bit in this regard. But what I'd really like is to hear some Bach or Motzart played in a Metallica-esk (or Slipnot-esk or ... well, you get the picture) style. The grandiose bigness of the classical compositions, combined with the intensity and aggression of metal would make for an incredibly powerful combination in my opinion. Particularly given the, dare I say, virtuosity, of metal-based musicians.

My vision would have solely metal instrumentation, so no horns or pianos or other such things. Just guitars, bass, and drums. Have one guitarist covering the gist of the horn section, another for the higher strings. Perhaps even a 3rd for other portions (piano?). The bassist obviously would go over the cellos and lower strings. Drums are drums. The net result would indeed be a simplified version of the original piece, but thats inevitable unless you get at least a dozen or so people together to perform.

Am I nuts for thinking Classical Metal would be a really cool thing?
