Nobody says a sports car can't use a v6, in fact most of the cars i'd classify as "sports cars" have either a turbo 4 or 6 cylinder configuration. A sports car and a muscle car are two very different things.

V6 engines are lighter and generally have a flatter torque curve than the v8s so they are favorable in light low slung cars (like the jag mentioned) built for going around corners which until lately has been foreign concept here in america. They are seen as inferior in 3800 lb GVW highway monsters because they don't burn the rubber as easily or accelerate as fast in the 1/4 from a dead stop.

Kinda off topic, but damn that picture really shows the inspiration for that new Mustang concept:

The Lotus Evora has a V6 and it is a Sportscar. Lotus Exige is a Sportcar and it has only 4 cylinders. A Mazda Miata is a sportscar and also a 4 banger. A Porsche 911 is a six banger and so were ealier BMW M3s. Nissan 300-370ZX all V6...on and on
Sportcar is not strictly defined by the # of cylinders.

I never heard anyone say a V-6 can't be a sports car. There are a ton of V-6 sports cars and even a few 4 bangers.

If someone does believe that well then, they are just idiots.

When I saw it had 340HP I thought....pretty good power!

Then I saw it said it was a supercharged 3.0 V6.

3.0 is a small displacement but 340 is not really impressive to me for a SC'd V6. The 380HP version is a bit better but not by a lot.

In either case though, I'm sure it is great to drive.

and yes...a good V6 can easily make for a great sports car. But obviously it also depends on what you are putting it into. I love my modded V6 Camaro...but I can only imagine how much more fun it would be in an Alpha platform built car (lighter!)

I think a super car should have at least 8 cylinders though. Although the Porsche 911 Turbo is often called a super car, I don't think it is. I think the 911 Turbo is simply the pinnacle of sports car but falls short of a "super car".

A super car must have
* exclusive price
* exclusive features
* rarity in production numbers

The 911 Turbo only has point #1 and maybe a bit of #2, and man the 911 engine is one ugly monster.

beat that thing with a stick!!

getting tired of people complaining of "ugly" engines or "ugly" engine bays.

I don't get how you can call that engine ugly, it's not very clean looking (which is totally different from ugly btw), and that's because you found a picture with what looks like hoses and wires just left to dangle.

When you're talking about engines, "ugly" is not an issue. "hard to work on" or "messy" are totally different than "ugly."

I'd much rather drive a 911 with an ugly engine than some pos with a "pretty" engine bay.

Sports car is generally defined as having 2 seats.

Per Websters:

sports car

noun
a small, high-powered automobile with long, low lines, usually seating two persons.

Nothing requiring the number of cylinders in any definition I've ever seen.
