October GM Sales down 45%...

*headdesk* *headdesk* *facepalm* *facepalm*

Quote:
General Motors dealers in the United States delivered 170,585 vehicles in October, down 45 percent compared with a year ago. GM truck sales of 97,119 were down 51 percent and car sales of 73,466 were off 34 percent. The steep decline in vehicle sales was largely due to a significant drop in the market’s retail demand as uncertainty over the deepening credit crisis impacted consumer confidence.

It's ugly out there.

Can they avoid bankruptcy? That is the big question now.

Despite the poor overall sales, take a look at Malibu and hybrid sales. GM is doing a few things right.

They're not the only ones....

GM sold 169,000 vehicles total...in comparison, they're doing the..."least bad".
Quote:
Ford's U.S. auto sales plummeted 30 percent and Toyota's dropped 23 percent in October as low consumer confidence and tight credit combined to scare customers away from their showrooms.

Both automakers' results, compared with the same month last year, are strong indications that sales for the industry as a whole may perhaps be the worst in 25 years.

Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co., the first automaker to report its monthly sales Monday, said its Ford, Lincoln and Mercury car sales were off 27 percent, while light truck sales for the three brands were down more than 30 percent.

Overall Ford, including its Volvo brand, sold 132,278 light vehicles last month compared with 189,515 in the same month last year.

Meanwhile, Toyota Motor Corp. sold a total of 152,101 vehicles, down from 197,592 in October 2007. The drop included a 34 percent in light truck demand, while car sales fell 15 percent.

Everybody's getting hit hard, this is insane!!:( Even Toyota with their 0% financing, still posted a terrible drop.

Economics 101: apply the above situation to the rest of the country (all sectors, industries, etc). When people don't buy stuff, bad things happen.

GM droped 15% in september, 45% in october, so ~30% average over the two months. That is about the same as the industry average.

brutal... I was at a dealership yesterday.... and will be again today.... Saving that story for later.

I went into the showroom, and they had 6 vettes in and around the showroom. The front lot had all traverses facing the street and only 2 or 3 Malibus. Tahoes and trucks were stuffed in the back.....

I walked around for about 30 mins waiting for my ride and the sales men never even came up to me. I didn't even wast time asking them about the camaro.
