Very cool... I had no idea that GM played a part like that.
FWIW, many times I have heard the toymaker Mattel was one of many manufacturers contracted by the gov't. to produce the M-16. I've heard lots of different reasons 'why,' and, noting the prevalance of said claim, I figured I'd nip it in the bud with this link to Snopes regarding the urban legend.
