How's My Gas Mileage?
Okay, so I just got back from a 3,500 mile jaunt from south GA to northern NY, through VT and NH to Cape Cod, then through CT, NJ, PA and back to south GA. Interstate most of the way (I-75/85 to I-77, then I-81 to NY) up and back. Interstates were rather hilly and 70-75 mph for probably close to 3,000 of those miles. The rest was two-lane mountainous roads (Adirondacks & Green Mountains and a 50 mile stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway - see picture) at 45-55 mph.
I have a 2012 1LT RS package with MRT-V2 axlebacks and CAI induction. I admit to being a little heavy-footed at slower speeds, but I did try to behave on the trip. I filled up the tank and reset the DIC indicator for avg mpg then headed north. I never reset anything the entire 3,500 miles and when I pulled in my garage at trip's end, the avg mpg read 26.0. All things considered, I'm pretty pleased with that. My question is: Would you be? What do you think about 26 mpg on my entire trip? Thanks for input.

26 MPG avg for any vehicle on that long of a trip is doing damn good. We took a similar trip in our Equinox and averaged 29.7 MPG. The fact that you have a 6 cylinder and managed to get that number is very good.

Just a few weeks back I drove I-40 Raleigh, NC to Nashville and back. Virtually the whole time in 6th gear except for a few construction zones. I purchased 3 tanks and got 28.4, 24.2 and 28.2. So I'd say your 26 sounds about right

Sounds fine to me.
I pulled an average of 28MPG in my 1LT over the course of 240 miles. That was with the cruise control set at 75MPH with the AC on, passenger, and car full of stuff. Going through the rolling hills of southern and central MS. I noted that it will hold a constant 31 MPG with the cruise set at 70 MPH, AC on, passenger. Oh, and it will hold 25.5 MPG with the speedo at 91MPH......

Forgot to mention I had the A/C on just about the entire trip.

That actually doesn't sound particularly good to me for a V6. Under the driving conditions you listed, I'd expect an SS to return numbers like that. The last two tanks on my 5.0 commuting were 31.0 and 30.1. Granted, that was with ethanol-free gas (if you can find it, use it, it makes a surprisingly big difference), and only using A/C for a very small part of that.
Also, are you sure the computer is correct? Those can be off. You should check your receipts and actually calculate it out. You may actually have gotten better than 26.

YES, VERY SATISFIED. especially considering the terrian you were driving.....The only way you get much better than that would be to be driving on flat ground, with all highway that you can use your Cruise Control on.

You gotta figure... there are economy cars, even hybrids, that cost more, and don't even come close to looking as stylish or providing the sport capabilities and thrills the Camaro does, that do not get 26 MPG. Talk about having the best of all worlds...
26 is a damn fine number! |

![]() I thought about doing that but didn't. I'll check my next tank and see how it compares to what the computer says. Thanks.

I made a trip from the Bay to Napa which was like 171 miles round trip. I reset my meter before the trip and at the end of the trip, it read about 25mpg. NOT BAD!
I made sure that I'm always in top gear and kept it under 65mph. |

Hope you're right, but every car is different and some have quirks that others do not. I'll let y'all know the results. Thanks for the input!
