Hmmn dont most truck haul stuff that are in fleets? And would 50 miles with carrying a bunch of equipment would stay the same. Also 40k more than a standard truck so that means atleast 60k for a WT model dont think that will save that much money.

great steps in the right direction. remember that the most efficient way to haul freight is by modern train. fuel/generator/DC motor. I like the direction it's heading.

So all they did was redo Volt level hardware into a truck. It technically doesn't get 100 mpg. (As far as they would clearly state)

absolutely not. The volt is driven in part by the actual motor. The motor on this is for only electric generating...

The drivetrain in the volt is really technologically advanced.

Yes you are correct. I didn't 100% clearly state it was an exact replica of Volt hardware. I meant the Volt used similar style hardware to achieve the same results...

I get where they're coming from trying to derive the 100mpg claim based on a vehicle typically driving 40 miles per day. However, the article also says...

Quote:
The electric motors, not the gas engine, deliver power (and lots of instant torque) to the wheels, for a total range of about 350 miles.
The 2012 Silverado 1500 looks to have a 26 gallon fuel tank. So IF you were to have to drive for any kind of great distance and use a whole tank of fuel to charge the batteries, 350 mi / 26 gal = 13.461 MPG, which is worse than the trucks city MPG rating of 17mpg... I wonder what kind of RPMS the 4.3 is turning to charge the batteries? Seems to me the truck might be more efficient overall using a 4 cylinder to charge the batteries?

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure THIS thing is not going to have room for a 26 gallon tank in addition to the electric and gas engines + battery pack.

This. I'm betting the fuel tank is much less than 26 gallons. I'm betting its around half that which puts mileage in the 25 (give or take) MPG range.

It was stated in the video a few times that even when using gas the truck still gets better MPGs.

I bet the mpg's on gas generation is around 30. I'm pretty stoked about this project and hope GM takes notice. I would love to buy one if the price is right.

Ya I know. I'm talking about mass production. Not just some small company building fleet vehicles.
