Let Slip
Hello..this is my first post. I'll give a little background, if I may so indulge..
My first car was a 1987 Dodge Charger, 2.2 with auto..yes, it was a dog and had 187,057 miles on it when it became mine, but it was freedom. Second (and current) car is a 1992 2 wheel drive Jeep Cherokee Sport five speed. Had around 51 thou and some change when I got it, currently has a little over 104 thou..I've done a few go faster things to it, but since it's only rear wheel drive and I live in southwestern Virginia, I've never seen too much point in putting too much into it, if you get my drift. Now, I'm going to admit something that may make me unpopular. Until very recently, my next car was going to be a 2006 or newer Hyundai Tiburon V-6 SE. I didn't just want a fast car, I wanted a fast good handling car. That wasn't a Mustang. Now as far as domestics went, a 2002 Firebird was going to be my go to. I've always liked Pontiacs as they were the very last hold out in the speed wars and they were just sexy. Even in the mid 80s, when v8s were barely in the 200hp range. Not that I disliked Camaros by any stretch, don't get me wrong. After all, they're siblings with my beloved Firebirds! For a while, I was really leaning toward a new Challenger. I was absolutely in love with the styling and the implied performance from the hemi. And the hemi sound, it's just..magic. But..I dunno..they're just so portly. And we have alot of mountain roads and curvy back roads that I can have fun with in my Jeep, why would I want to go to something that might handle worse? Scary. Then I saw that the production Camaro was going to be the one that Leno was seen driving around events and car get togethers. I read that it was going to come with an LS3 engine. Not only would it have horsepower, it would have torque. And the six speed manual? What was that front wheel drive car I had been pining over again? Yeah. I always knew there was no replacement for displacement. I always knew I was going to get a supercharger and cams for the Tibby, that I could run with alot of cars I shouldn't be able to. But for this much car, this SEXY of a car, for that price? Yeah. Chevy has made me a believer again. I know that we probably won't see another Firebird. While that comes with a bit of sadness, I think I can live with it. My dad has owned nothing but Chevy trucks (yes, I kind of count a 97 Blazer a truck, sue me) since I was a child. He started out with Pontiac Tempest Le Mans with some secret parts from GTOs.. Now he's driving a 2009 GMC Sierra.. I've been lucky to fall into a nice job and my restraint during my earlier 20s has helped me have an advantage when it comes to insurance. Yes, I'm going to wait for mine. How long? Dunno. I don't like owing on something, especially with this economy. So I'll have to pay cash. But that's ok. The waiting will make it better. Anyway, yeah. This is getting boring, I just wanted to drop a line and share a boring story. |
