Zune or iPod?
Today is the release date for the new 80 GB and 8 GB Zunes. Now that the playing field is more even, which one's going to be plugged into your Camaro's MP3 jack?

Ahh my ipod. It was advertised as having a 12 hour battery life. It came out of the box getting 4 hours. Occasionally it just freezes, and the battery drains after 24 hours unless it is plugged in. I took it to the Apple store, and even though I made an appointment (I walked in and they sent me to a computer to set an appointment time. God forbid I should speak with a human being) I still waited for over an hour past my appointment time. They then told me that such is the normal operation for ipods, unless of course I wanted to buy the extended warranty. I was still in the original warranty limits, but they strongly hinted they wouldn't fix it unless I bought the extended warranty. Next time I get a portable music player, it will be literally anything that isn't an ipod.

Yeah, I got my Zune through a radio station drawing in January. I've always been a Microsoft fan, but I wasn't going to shell out the $250 to buy the thing. Now, I'm selling my pool table to get the new one! I like it that much. I've never had any problems with it, and the screen is huge! I leave it plugged in most of the time when I'm using it (in my car), but I don't think the battery life is that bad... The new one's supposed to be even better in any case.
My only problem with the Zune 30 is that it didn't have enough space to store all my music and movies. The new 80 won't be quite big enough either, but it's a definite improvement and you won't hear me complaining. |

I used to have the one that came before the Zune...from Creative...damn, i wish I could remember what it was called.
Anyways, long story short: It was stolen, pissed me off, cause that $300 worth of a music player was sooo much better than the Ipod. If I get another, it'll be the Zune. Apple can't win me over on anything, not like I haven't opened myself, either... |

ahhh in between nomad and Zune.
Either way, I'll probably be buying myself a zune here pretty soon. Apple just makes terrible products imho. iPhone was/is crap iPod is/was crap for battery life and clarity. I hope Zune is better. |

I got ipods for the wife and kids, they seem to like them. I however still prefer CDs like some people still use typewriters. Oh well, hope it has a CD player!

Neither.. I bought an MRobe:100 when Olympus link was cutting production and never looked back.. still runs though the battery is starting to fade out (only get about 5 hours out of it now)..
5Gb music only.. wtf do I need videos or pictures for .. its a damn music player.. and when will anyone ever need more than 5 GB? my entire CD collection is like 8 GB ripped at 128k.. when am i ever going to listen to ALL of it at one sitting? uh never. Edit - When this dies I will go looking for another alternative .. because IPODS(and the entire apple/mac brand) are crap(experience with PCs/Servers for well over 20 years) and more of a fashion than function and a lot of other MP3 players out there just don't work as advertised.

heehee, I guess I must be an overachiever...all my music is as 320kbs....
Ever since I started doing that, I can't go back to lower than 220-ish...it sounds all fuzzy to me, below that...and I know it's not that bad. Kinda like going back to dial up after you've tasted DSL, or cable...you just can't do it... |

Ha ha, my entire music collection is probably around 80 GB, plus another 35 GB of videos and maybe 2 or 3 GB of pictures. I find the Zune makes a great way to show people pictures without having to carry them in my wallet. I don't use the videos that often, but they have come in quite handy in waiting rooms or on airplanes.

If I were in the market I'd probably go with the Zune if they hadn't come out with the iPod Touch.
I absolutely hated the original iPod's control scheme. (Is the Zune the same? If so I wouldn't buy one of them either.) But the iPod Touch is a VAST improvement. That said, what I actually own is a Toshiba Gigabeat. Nice player, great control scheme. But the 'Gigabeat Room' program to get the MP3's on the player has issues. |

I say go for the Zune. I have a 30gig and it has excessively more room than I could ever need. I have 800+- songs 200 pics and about 4, 20 min vids and havent used 4 gigs yet, Plus my comp only has 40g's to begin with!
Anyway everyone who sees it comments on how big and clear the screen is. The only thing I dont like is the software for the computer because it freezes for about 3 minutes EVERY time I open it and if I add anything new to it, it will add all of the things I have previously told not to put on it. Yet I still prefer it over an ipod
