My Challenger Dyno Vids

Vids at bottom of the post.

Just thought I would share my current SRT8 build so far. Going back to dyno next week with a few mods to try and crack 1100rwhp. When I get my Camaro I will try and get the same numbers or better numbers. My GT500 puts out 660rwhp but is a bear to hook up on the track, I think its going to be sold to fund a Camaro build, probably an forged stroker SS, probably not going to mess with the ZL1 yet. - I love all the Big three muscle cars and dont find myself brand loyal. I would have committed this build capital into the camaro SS I ordered but a poor dealer experience killed the deal.

Oh, and before you call my car fat, she scales at less than 3700 pounds. Even less with the drag pack doors. - She is still fat though!

So for some backstory. I took delivery on 9/9/09 after a terrible Camaro order went wrong. - another story for another post.

Here is the baseline dyno information.

Run after the Magnaflow p#16885 (no other mods) 9/18/2009
369hp 355tq
624 miles on car
82 degrees
66% humidity
30.60 b. pressure

At 3000 miles I needed an oil change, so I said hell why not put a new motor in it.

Its a PWR 426 stroker with 248* cam, Stage 3 heads, Hellion Twin turbos with 22psi - E85 tuned 7000redline (not pulling that far though. not enough turbo).
1 of 4 in the world Wilson Sheetmetal Intake manifold
Ram Clutch, DSS driveshaft, 1400hp axles, 3.92 gears
Afco Drag pack rear suspension, tubular adjustable Afco front suspension, tubular k-members
Full cage, Corbeau seats, full interior, nav. No sunroof
Line lock, all NHRA safety systems and inspections to current standards
Two stage nitrous system (not activated yet)
Running NT05R 315's in the rear on the street. Hoosier slicks on CCW 17" rims on the track
Blah, blah, blah plenty more, but who cares, lets get to the de-fatting part.

Here is the weight reduction info.
Now the 3680# is my usual street weight.

My race weight is 3321# when all the tricks are employed. Read below to see.

I cant give all the secrets away, but some of the weight reduction is listed below. This is also a special order no sunroof car so it started 35# lighter than most SRT8's. Almost all challengers have sunroofs for some reason. When new I scaled at 4102 pounds with a full tank of fuel and all fluids, no driver.

-68# Corbeau seats in place of factory power seats and brackets
-28# Braille battery
-64# Unsprung weight -17" CCW rims/M&H tires. I sometimes run the modified factory SRT8 Alcoa 20x11's" but it depends on how frisky I feel. I run Hoosier slicks at the track
-42# Afco Drag pack and billet control arms
-51# Magnaflow no resonator exhaust( still has center mufflers, I also run electric cutouts) Center mufflers will probably go, the turbos count as a muffling device in VA.
-23# Tubular K member and transmission cross member
-26# Lightweight bumper supports - you can see the tubular front one in the video's
-19# Aluminum radiator in place of heavy factory radiator
-22# Carbon fiber decklid and spoiler
-15# Reciprocating weight - Ram clutch and flywheel
-11# Reciprocating DSS chrome moly 1 piece driveshaft
-30# Kicker amp and subwoofer
-9# Aluminum front suspension
-8# Wilson sheetmetal intake
+ lots of misc. other items that I may reveal down the road

The car still has all factory sound deadner and the 35# factory carpet, headliners, all door panels and such.

So thats 416#'s of weight that I will reveal without getting too crazy.

Now remember I added weight into the car as well.

The turbo's replaced the cats so they pretty much wash out
+2 nitrous bottles added 33#'s with all brackets, controller and plumbing etc.
+3# for 5 point harnesses
+2# for gauges, boost controllers, wiring etc
+2# for 3 hat fore aeromotive fuel system
+2# for all -10 fuel lines
DSS 1400hp axles weigh 11 pounds more than stock factory axles and thats reciprocating weight
The 4" intercooler weighs 12#'s
The turbo plumbing added 7#'s
The roll cage
2 extra qts of oil capacity
1 gallon extra coolant for air to water intercooler
NHRA certified bellhousing and trans blanket
Driveshaft loop
Line lock and plumbing

Of course there are a few more things I sometimes take out when I go to the track

-15# front sway bar
-24# trunk well and floor mats
-31# carpeted sheet metal rear seat delete kit. Its 50# if I totally remove the back seats but I usually dont, I like the completed look.
-10# windshield wiper fluid and reservoir

And here is the killer....

SRT8 Challenger Drag pack doors! They are painted factory color to match the car and have polycarbonate windows. The outsides are still factory sheetmetal, the interiors are totally gutted out. No window controls, power modules, crossbeams, etc. They are plug and play and install in 5minutes. Net savings is 260#'s!

My race weight when everything is employed is 3321#'s. Less if I run just a few gallons of E85 fuel instead of the full 19gallon capacity.

And for those that do not know, it takes 10hp to overcome 100pounds of weight deficiency.

Shooting for a low 9 second timeslip this fall/winter when the DA comes back down. Gonna be a lot of work and re-work.
I look forward to meeting you all at camarofest!

Anyhoo, flame away!

Here are a few more pics. Its been a long 2 year road but the payoff has been worth it. Cant wait to see what an LS3 can do when I get a Camaro and start to play! Im thinking Procharger F1-R!

After cleanup and powdercoating

For the video embed, take the (.) out from "youtube" then add .com after youtube and before the /. Or just copy the link from the address bar on the video page.

Nice.

What tires are under the back of your 660whp GT500 when you track it?

I have no problem at all hooking up with my 325's. Its the best launching car I've ever owned, no wheel hop, no wheel spin, no drama and consistent 60 foots.

M&H racemasters, 325/45 17's. I think I need to play with the air pressure a bit more. I get wicked wheel hop. Maybe I need more seat time and clutch finesse.
