Computer help plz.

Trying to dual boot xp pro n win2k pro.

Installed xp pro to a different drive, fresh install not an upgrade.
Well it still screwed with my 2k install.

Was able to put back my system file so it would boot but once in 2k it says pagefile is off n explains how to turn it back on but the computer wont start enough to change it.
Tried a backup of 2k folder, this page file seting must be elsewhere. Any clue how to get it turned back on? Safe mode is no go....

I'm guessing the drive letter was changed (not by you) during install. See if the following kb helps:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/249321

EDIT: you could also try to fix the master boot record, but not sure if you need to remove the other drive for it to rebuild the boot record to assign the correct drive letter again to your 2k drive

Well u were half right but its goofy. Win2k is on d, spare storage ntfs drive was h, and where xp was installed. But xp keep chaging h to g. No reason win2k should even care.......

Why not do a virtual machine on your computer, and why are you dual booting two windows os's?

back up sort of, installed new drives in july so had sort of fresh copy of win2k I could just dump back, just back up what changed in the mean time.

was a PITA tried every back way possiable, a usb to ide adapter would of make it tons easier.

now just wipe the new drive blank, copy this to that, add back what has changed, and won't be putting back xp pro any time soon. [less I get a hotswap sata drive]
