Window Tint question.

Did a search, couldn't find anything. Sorry if this is a repost.

I am in the process of planning a road trip and I have been doing research on state tint laws and found that 98% of the states I am going to drive thru, their tint laws don't allow tint as dark as FL does.

My question is, if I get pulled over outside of FL and the laws in that state don't allow tint to be as dark as my windows are, will I still get a ticket even though my car is registered in FL and has legal tint for FL?

Thats a great question. I've always wondered that as well. I've traveled to a couple of other states and so far havent had any problems.

If you're car is registered in FL, then you have to obey FL tint laws. Another state can't ticket you simply for driving through.

*I'm basing this off of my understanding of how inter-state laws are governed. I do not know first hand.*

I would think it's under the officer's discretion.

Its going to depend on how the State's (that you are driving thru) statute is worded. If their statute says any vehicle operated on any public highway, road, or street. Then you could be cited.... DE State Statute ----
No person shall operate any motor vehicle on any public highway, road or street which does not conspiciously display a certificate by the manufacture of any "aftermarket manufacture" window tinting material which may have been installed that such window tinting material meets the requirements of FMVSS 205 in effect at the time of manufacture. It shall be a valid defense to any charge under this subsection if the person so charged produces a validated mandatory inspection notice showing the the DMV has examined the motor vehicle since the date of offense and certifies compliance with FMVSS 205 (MEANS BASICALLY YOU CAN'T)---DE Title 21 Section 4313 000c. The next subsection states that a medical waiver is needed in order to put on window tinting in DE,

Honestly, I don't worry about out of State equipmemt violations unless its something required in all States like headlights and tailights. Even then I only issue warnings unless the operator gives me a hard time on the stop.

If I were you I would go online and print out your DMV regulations or State Motor Vehicle Code governing the use of tint in your State and keep it with you in the vehicle if you are concerned about getting stopped. I would hope showing the documentation governing the use of tint where you live would be enough to prevent a possible problem. It obviously would with me. I wouldn't want my in-car video showing me citing you after you proved that your car is legal in the State that you live in (especially if you didn't give me a hard time).... I would think my superiors would not be too happy with me no matter what the Statute says... common sense should prevail.
