Ticket and Towed cont....

Just got home for court. They dismissed my case and tried to give me reason why the gun pointing and tow. They said that the officer can tow for just about any reason they want. They can also search the car (take inventory) before tow. I could still fight it or just let it go to a overzealous young cop. I have no priors and didnt look like anyone wanted. I am a 43 year old clean cut business owner. They would not even consider paying for a tow and impound fee's because they said cop felt threatend becasue i pulled into my driveway so quick after he turned on his lights. thats the reason he felt threatened. Then 15 minutes later he again felt threaten when another car pulled into my driveway. My atty said it was not the time or place to argue with them and let them dismiss the case first. Car seems to be fine with no addittional miles on it.

Most likely because after your first post you did not reply to additional posts. I guess most didn't read you were on your way to the courthouse. Glad it worked out for you but sucks you had to pay the tow bill.

Law enforcement related threads can get out of hand quick around here. Usually the topics are very one-sided as the officer(s) who handle the situation are generally not members here. There are a few LEO here who usually try to shed some light but the staff usually just lock the thread because it's very uncommon that we get the whole story from the OP.

Thanks for the info. I have been fuming all weekend over this. The officer has had a few complaints and has only been in car by himself about 4 months. He was just pissed that he could find no reason to arrest me and was embarassed that he called backup on my girlfriend. When backup arrived he quickly told them everything was ok and he did not need any assistance.

I'm a LEO.
File a formal complaint about the officers conduct.
File a small claims suit to recover the tow fees and storage costs.

If you couldnt have outrun him. you should have explained that you pay his salary. That usually makes them stop and think.

Thank you for the info. I really didnt have a huge problem with the office pulling his weapon on me until he realized that i was not a threat of any kind. His demeaner and attitude is what really got me upset. He had to be a big man and since he couldnt find any thing to charge me for he towed my car. I will talk to my atty to see if it is really worth my time. I hope this young officer grows up and becomes a great cop someday. I just dont see him ever running for office or getting promoted with his unnecessay agression.

When folks pull that on me, I grab a coin out of my pocket and ask if they want a refund on the salary they paid me.

I'm a fan pf cops. Looking at my posts around here will show that; but I wouldn't ever be ok with one pointing a gun at me. I have very few things that are absolute in my opinion. I think most things are very flexible. Gun pointing is an absolute, though. I won't be your best buddy anymore if you point guns at me. Those things hurt and they tear people up. Just tell me what you need and I'll do it, no need to point guns.
