"I think that the flowmasters that mullet heads put on cars sound worse"

Here is a thread to a discussion about fart can mufflers:
http://forums.motortrend.com/70/6321...ler/index.html

I always wondered why ricers put these obnoxious mufflers on their cars, but I find it always interesting to hear the opinions of the "other side" (hence the Title of this post, which was one of the replies).

The replies goes to show that as obnoxious as "mullet heads" find fart cans on ricers, import fans hate those obnoxious flowmaster mufflers on V8s. I for one agree with both sides: obnoxious mufflers are obnoxious regardless of how many cylinders you have. (That goes for those Harley mufflers too!)

I once lived in SE Asia for a while, and Hindus would burn their obnoxious incense that would permeate throughout every apartment in a high-rise block. It's the same kind of "FU mentality" that people with obnoxious mufflers have.

Comments?

Kind of funny debate.

I've grown to appreciate quiet mufflers and an electric cut-out. Quiet in the neighborhood but open it up when it's appropriate.

Obnoxious folks, this one's for you:

To me it's annoying to have to hear a POS ricer with a 150hp car. I bet they hate hearing the sound of loud V8s because they know that car will likely put a serious hurt on their car.

Notice the imports that are fast (Supras, Z cars, WRXs, etc) are generally not loud and annoying like a stock Civic with a fart can is.

I dislike fart cans as much as the next muscle car fan, but one reply in that thread really summed it up:

(paraphrased): "since time immemorial kids have been doing up their cars to be cooler, whether it's putting 20 spotlights on their trucks, covering up the windows on their Mustangs, or putting fart cans on 4 bangers".

Kids will be kids and we all grow out of it. I don't like fart cans because they're so dishonest. You ain't got a V8 but you're trying to sound like you do. On the other hand, when I was a kid I used to wear fake branded clothing on occasion - was I any better? We all grow up eventually.

Those flow-through exhausts have a place: on a race track. If you happen to enjoy that sound on a street car, that's your right; but it's thinking that everyone around you also has a right to hear it that's annoying.

Not really even a low rumble sound of a SS can do that without even trying to be a A-hole ..But I have Flowmasters on my car and I dont have a Mullet.I'm not boasting about the sound of my car but what your saying is not all true..

You can also control your exhaust volume with your right foot (to a degree), don't forget that...

I'm not suggesting that all aftermarket exhausts are obnoxious, nor even flowmasters for that matter. The flowmasters remark was a quote from the link.

It's those super loud ones that trigger car alarms and scare kids and dogs that are of the "FU" type. Thankfully I've only ever heard one on the streets that was that loud, it was on a Mustang going through downtown. Man I'd hate to be that driver's neighbor.

Furthermore, I am really thankful I don't have any Harley owners for neighbors. Seems like standard practice for new owners to delete the mufflers. There should be some mod to hook up microphones and bluetooth to the mufflers, so owners can listen to it on headphones with the volume up to 11 and make themselves deaf whilst sparing the rest of us.

Flowmasters sound absolutely awesome and sound like true American Muscle on V8'S, and don't even compare to the obnoxious fart cans on the ricer rockets, I have Corsa on my 2010, but my 71 and Big Block IROC both have 3 inch Flowmaster exhaust and they both sound awesome.
