maybe with all boltons and a bunch of weight removed.
or you could flatten his tires.

Add all your standard boltons, but what is probaly slowing down the Camaro SS the most is it's 3.45 gears, remeber the Camaro SS has 28.7" tall tires. Switch to 3.73's ASAP.

i still like the fact that the Camaro is NA and has the potential to hang with a Supercharged 500HP mustang.
![]() and yes the tires are a must |

You might be able to pull through with drag radials that fit. It would probably be very close.

Yeah If you guys race on a race track, assuming both of you are about equal in driver skill, then the Camaro SS should murder the GT-500 on the track. The GT-500 brakes will fade and it does not like corners too well with 58% of its weight on it's front wheels.

i belive i can get him with drag radials if hes on regular tires.
1/4 mile difference between is 1/2 sec. isnt it? i think the shelby's is 12.8 while the SS is 13.3 |

![]() if that's the case, the SS should win... not only on brakes, but the IRS will rape that old straight axle on twisties but... if it's a drag... you'd better get some good tires and hit some good shifts!

Considering there is absolutely no concrete performance data on the Camaro to date, then you are simply guessing. Just so you know, I would not take the 12.8 magazine quarter mile time as what a stock GT500 will run. My 2007, with only 500 on the clock and in it's as delivered configuration including the stock F1 Goodyear's, ran 12.51 @ 113.81 (2.042 60ft) at Beech Bend Raceway in June 2008 (90 degree day).
You'll have to forgive the vast majority of folks on this board for their takes on what the GT500 can and cannot do well. Very few have ever sat behind the wheel of one, let alone actually make a dragstrip pass in one or make a lap or two on a road course. The only numbers they can spit out are what they have heard second or third-hand or read in some magazine along the way. The only way to find out the outcome of the duel you proposed is to take actually make the race happen when you get your car. Anything else is just an opinion, and given this is a Gen5 Camaro board, most of those opinions are going to favor the Camaro SS. Quote:
Ummm....GT500's come standard with 3.31 gears, so they're at the same disadvantage or worse. Last edited by garagelogic; 03-01-2009 at 10:10 PM. |
