60,000 Volts!

I really like this car. Another winner for GM.

60,000 Volts in First Year?

Bloomberg's Jeff Green is reporting that a super-secret source at GM is claiming that they could build up to 60,000 Chevy Volts in their inaugural year of production which is slated for 2010. According to the source, it is partly because they believe the demand is going to be there and it is partly in order to drop the price on the plug-in to under $30,000 per unit. To put that number of units in perspective, that's FOUR TIMES the number of Toyota Prius hybrids sold in the first year they were on sale here in the US, so selling 60,000 is no small feet.

If they are able to move that number of vehicles, GM might be able to sell the plug-in Volt for less than $30,000, said Bloomberg's sources, who didn't want to be identified. The discussions show the Detroit automaker believes an affordable electric car will help spur a revival said the confidental insider source. Toyota's Prius can be bought for $22,175.

The next secret to uncover: where exactly will they be building these 60,000 hypothetical cars?

That's Awesome! HA! You know, if I didn't want a Camaro, I'd be waiting on that car.

Nice Find!

I wouldn't mind having a volt, never buy a prius for 3 reasons:
1) Japanesse (call me biased and then ask if I care)
2) They look stupid
3) they aren't as good as the hype

I've also heard that their batteries last like, 40,000 miles, and then need a 5k replacement.

Is it actually confimed that the volt will be produced? I'm kinda slow finding these things out, took me until december of last year to stop saying "wouldn't it be cool if they built the camaro?"

yeah, I gues they've got the company for the batteries, but the batteries still aren't quite there, yet - close, though!
GM is estimating 2010...

If I were forced to buy a volt, my first modification would be to record a hot camaro exhaust and play it through a speaker in the rear bumper just to get the same affect. Gotta have a rumble!
