top speed of subaru wrx sti?

anyone know just how fast these things go? had one buzzin around me for about 30 miles on the highway the other day to the point of where i couldnt stand hearing it anymore. we werent racing but id say we had a high speed tag-along goin on as in the faster i would go to escape his loud fart can exhaust he would do the same. needless to say i was mighty surprised at how fast i was going and he was still there. would he have run out of power before i hit the factory shut off on the 2 SS?

A quick google search leads me to believe they top out at 155, but that also might be electronically limited.

I saved the Road & Track and in 2008 edition they tested the WRX and WRX STI.

WRX // WRX STI

HP/TRQ 265/244 // 305/290

0-60 5.1 // 5.0

0-100 13.8 // 14.1

1/4 13.8@101.0 // 13.6@98.2

Top
Speed 140 Limited // 155

Its your guess whether Road & Track list factual testing but I always thought the WRX was a little bit of a sleeper. A little to ricey for me I prefer my Camaro!

Like everyone else said, stock it's limited to 155. With that tuned out, it's gear limited just under 180mph, but it's not going to reach that on stock horsepower. However, very minor modifications can make a hell of a lot more power. Considering you said it sounded like a fart can, it probably had equal length headers, if so it was likely making 300+ awhp and would be a very good run for an SS from a roll. With stock or like stock unequal length headers, the 2.5 sounds much deeper and lopey than your typical 4 cylinder and even 6 cylinder for that matter. Still could be considered fart canny by some I guess.

The subbie's aren't exactly the most aerodynamic vehicles though. So I imagine they have a lot more wind resistance to overcome than the Camaro's...

I was behind one the other day on my motorcycle. I could smell he was running race gas in it. Seriously fast cars especially with AWD. An SS might be a hair faster going straight but not on a winding road.

Actually, the sti has a Cd of 0.33 while the camaro has between .35-.36 depending on trim. Despite the looks of some of the flair, the spoiler, front splitters and big hood scoop (not for aero) are all functional. There's also some underbody trimmings and diffuser. The car is surprisingly aerodynamic and light (3300 lbs with a full tank) for it's size. The biggest limitation for top speed is simply power in the sti. With the extra power loss from all the awd components (THREE diffs!) the cars only put down about 240-250awhp in stock form on a dynojet. That's the trade you make for 1.7 60s on 235 street tires and awd handling.

I dunno My 04 STi seemed faster in a straight line. As for cornering they are unbeatable with a crazy driver. Like me lol. I miss mine so much.

Was it stock? Even then, they do feel quick, especially down low.
