Drivers exam question

So my friend on facebook is going for her drivers license and is taking the exam, apperantly one of the questions she is having troubles with, here is the status.

‎"In a Manual transmission (Stickshift) car, the stage at which the engine and transmission combine to begin moving a car" Is called....?
I feel stupid for not knowing this... come on I live around cars.

How is a vocabulary question relevant to the ability to safely operate a vehicle?

But I'm guessing they are looking for 'Nuetral' Or 'Shift' ?

I'm trying to assume that they are teaching a cetain thing.

Neutral is when the car begins moving?

I'd say engagement as well. Although the clutch is actually disengaging.

However, what I don't get is why they're testing on manual transmissions. We didn't get tested on them at all, because you don't need to know how to drive a stick shift in order to drive - most cars are automatics these days.

Again, I'm trying to assume what the test is looking for. It doens't make sense that they are looking for engagement. What does it matter in a driving test?

I remember answers like, neutral, shift, break and such. I don't remember 'Engage'. We were tested on HOW to drive operate the car, not How the car works.

Nah.. I think it's because everyone has to be a Picard in their car.

Which happens to be the Enterprise; and a land yacht.

All people should be tested on manuals and automatics.

I don't want idiots getting me killed during the Zombie Apocalypse!!!!

Me: Go, Go, Go.
Soon to be dead companion: But, I've never driven a stick bef....
Me: Boom, headshot. Open door, push dead simpleton out of car, drive off.
